I used to subscribe to the Economist, and www.foreignaffairs.com but let them slide some years ago, not sure why, I guess as I moved on my university days and my interest in international affairs and focused more on family and my career. Today I subscribe online with the NYT and www.theatlantic.com/. I like both because their apps download the entire current issue, and the Atlantic app keeps the old issues too (for a time) so it's great for reading when offline, including in flight. That said I'll probably cancel the NYT after the $4.99 trial annual subscription expires, as it gets pricey.

I get my Canadian news from the CBC, plus Cognito free access to Toronto Star, National Post and Globe and Mail. I wouldn't pay for any of them. I am considering a subscription to the Walrus.
I love Foreign Affairs. Used to enjoy when free through work. But can't afford that on my own. I am okay with limited article access for the rest. Get these papers down to $3 per month and I'd subscribe to 5-6.

And today it did. The President of the United States just said that over 75% of American Jews are either disloyal or unintelligent.

Trump said Tuesday that Jewish people who vote for Democrats are either ignorant or disloyal as he railed against two congresswomen who have been critical of the U.S.-Israel alliance.

"I think Jewish people that vote for a Democrat — I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty," Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting with the president of Romania.

The cops have to be right 100% of the time. The crooks only need to get through a few times:

Trump has opened the Pandora's Box with his rhetoric. It's only going to get worse.
Canada isn't exactly immune either, especially in light of the Quebec City mosque attack and the recently uncovered "The Base" movement linkage with a certain CAF member (I found doubly interesting that the FB profile of said alleged member is populated with, among other things, RT as fav).

Nobody ever reads beyond the headlines of that story. “Harvard said Fox is most balanced”.

What they also said was that “balance” doesn’t actually reflect reality. To use an extreme example, imagine a news service that provides balanced coverage between the Allies and Nazis right as they discover the concentration camps and are taking Berlin. Would you think a service that provided 50% positive coverage to both the Allies and the Nazis to be providing you an accurate picture of the facts?
Drop the word "positive" and I'd support a service that provided 50% coverage to both the Allies and the Nazis. It's good to understand the minds and motivation of your adversaries, if only to learn how to hobble them.

Trump is pissed that Denmark doesn't want to discuss selling Greenland to the US.
I actually doubt that. I expect this is more theatrics. Beware the troller of media who thoroughly enjoys it; but also benefits from their attention being distracted from more serious matters.

Texas Is a Leader in Mass Shootings. Why Is the Governor Silent?

Greg Abbott’s failure to respond to shootings like the one in Odessa is a moral disaster.

The Texas solution: more guns in more places.

Well, with stand your ground and open carry laws, the State is making it clear that it's up to you to defend yourself. If I lived in the more violent places in the USA I'd probably carry too. Not if I was a POC though, that'll get you killed by the police.

This was a mistake for the Dems. We're 13 months away from the election result, with strong likliehood of Trump's defeat. What's to be gained by pursuing impeachment when the Senate won't convict?

One of the reader comments on the NYT today played it out....

Unfortunately, this is how it plays out

1. The House investigates and votes to impeach Trump
2. The Senate predictably does not reach the 67 votes needed to convict.
3. During the Impeachment process Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity and Trump himself say the words "Biden, corruption, Ukraine" 7,435,030 times.
4. Biden loses the nomination to Trump's preferred candidate Elizabeth Warren
5. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Trump himself say "Radical Harvard socialist Elizabeth Warren" 7,435,030 times.

6. Trump re-elected.

The bombshells coming out this morning are fast and furious. I would not be surprised to seeing subpoenas and resignations flying by the end of the day.
