Postering

A by-law is nice and all, but there's a by-law against littering and you don't see anybody enforcing that except for people's own conscious and sense of socially acceptable behaviour.

The same would apply if postering on "virgin" walls or posts were looked down upon by Torontonians. Give postering less of an opportunity to expand and being the first to put a poster on a clean wall will come with hesitation and citizen enforcement.

It's unfortunate none of the candidates for Mayor -- save Pantalone -- have expressed in their platforms their will to beautify the city, like David Miller has been working on.

Burying hydro poles and then installing signature street lamps (with decorative carvings to prevent poster adhesion) would go far in beautifying our streets.

At the Pug Awards, Thomson expressed her desire to bury hydro lines and aesthetically improve the public realm - not sure if this is part of her platform, though.

^ Thanks for that. It's good to hear a candidate at least mention it. Beautifying the city won't come to the forefront as a campaign issue when we have a dire financial situation and citizens ferocious agains the TTC.
