PM Mark Carney's Canada

Can we put Xi Jinping in cabinet? I don't think there is a law preventing it.
It would give us better insight into China's needs during trade negotiations and help us move away from the US.

Everyone can breathe now lol. She'll resign her seat in the coming weeks

Citizenship might be an issue.

Garner did say that was for a personal family matter; it wasn't a permanent or long-term relocation (which Freeland's appears to be) and presumably she maintained Canadian residency. MPs are required to have Canadian residency in order to be an MP, so relocating to another country for work purposes appears to be establishing residence outside of Canada. The devil is in the details, I guess.
I agree that, if she takes a full-time paid position with an organization or another government, she should step down, and absolutely if she moves out of country. Being in the employ of another country might be a violation of her Oath of Allegiance.

MPs and Senators are required to be citizens but AFAIK Cabinet Members can be just about anyone. PM can name anyone was a Minister. An aside, but I believe Churchill was named an honourable member of the Privy Council in the 40s.

I think the ongoing joke is that Xi is a big guy on bridges. Would have earnestly helped a lot on new Champlain and Gordie Howe.

Oath of Allegiance might be tricky.

It was kind of funny that Poilievre had to step down as leader of the official opposition - because you had to be an MP.
but it was perfectly fine for someone to become PM without ever having been elected to parliament.

Both Eden and Churchill were similar, although Churchill didn't call an election after becoming PM.

Poilievre never stepped down as leader of the opposition when he lost his seat. Indeed, Carney wasn't a sitting MP when he became prime minister in March 2025. He did not have a seat until winning the election in April, 2025.

Why? If there's no proven conflict of interest (and so far there doesn't appear to be), and her appointment doesn't impact her ability to function as an MP there should be no need to resign. She finishes her term and moves on. The only people upset by this as those carrying water for Putin, who last I checked, was our adversary.
Read the statement from Zelensky in appointing Freeland:

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday he had appointed former Liberal cabinet minister Chrystia Freeland as an economic development adviser, citing her experience in attracting investment."

So according to Zelensky, Freeland has experience in attracting investment. Attracting investment from where and for whom? The answer is investments for her beloved Ukraine with the "investments" coming from the Canadian treasury i.e. Canadian taxpayer. Every Canadian should be outraged over this, and it must be noted that Mark Carney facilitated this corruption by giving Freeland a special appointment as head of reconstruction in Ukraine.

Canadian here. Not outraged. Not corruption. Ukraine is the aggrieved party in the conflict with Russia; indeed, Russia invaded them without provocation.

I don't know why you insist on bring these Kremlin talking points here to an audience that soundly rejects them each time.

Andrew Scheer was acting Leader of the Opposition while PP was not an MP.

The leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Denmark just issued the below tepid statement in response to Trumps threat to annex Greenland. In essence they say the future of Greenland should be decided by the people of Greenland and Denmark instead of declaring that if Trump followed through with his threat that would be the end of NATO which is the logical conclusion. In the era of Trump NATO is irrelevant. Anyone with half a brain can figure that out. Under Trump the United States is not a mutual protector. It is a PREDITOR and we Canadians need to wake up to this FACT (although it is probably too late).

Noticeably absent in this joint statement is Mark Carney who flew to Europe to meet with European leaders yesterday, so no doubt Carney was at this meeting. Our "fearless" leader is terrified to do or say anything that could raise the ire of the deranged pedo-President.
