As an East Yorker, we do NOT claim the Beaches, and I for one identify far more with North York or Scarborough.
I too live in East York.............and the riding name is just what it is, it covers the Beach, and the eastern portion of East York.
That said, I see no reason to denigrate the Beach, its a nice area, and I certainly spend more time there than in Scarborough or North York.

Apparently a cabinet shuffle is imminent.
Possibly as soon as tomorrow.
This will address Ms. Freeland's departure but also show the door to other ministers not running again.
Apparently Beaches-EY MP Nate Erskine Smith will be promoted to cabinet, possibly the Housing portfolio.
He had committed to not running again federally, but apparently will keep his name on the ballot now.

Yes, lots of rumours that Erskine-Smith will get Housing. Maybe one of his constituents can pass along some policy recommendations.
I like NES, but I'm not sure if tethering himself to Trudeau in the wildly unpopular final days of his government is politically wise. He might only be a minister for a few months with likely very little to show for it as a result. Also, he could lose his "independent" cred if he sticks with Trudeau while dozens of other MPs jump ship.

Looks like David McGuinty will be Minister of Public Safety. Interesting that McGuinty was one of the most senior members of Trudeau's caucus, but had never been a cabinet member.

I'm the exact opposite, I hardly ever go to the Beaches, Port Lands, or anywhere south of Danforth (yes I said Danforth not Bloor) or anywhere near the waterfront (except maybe the easternmost stretch of Scarborough near Rouge Hill), and generally don't even acknowledge those parts of the city. My daily life generally revolves around EY and the northern half of downtown (College st), as well as NY and sometimes Scarborough. The parts I ignore just always felt like they just don't fit in with the parts I frequent, and always felt like 2 completely different worlds.

Nate Erskine Smith with housing and infra.
Anita Anand picking up Internal Trade, she's a fixer, sharp and tough, if she's been handed that, they might just be serious about doing something (or maybe they only want to appear serious, TBD)
I'm uncertain on Steven MacKinnon's appointment. Its a potentially significant portfolio, but I'm not sure why he has been given it.

Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. This will be a placeholder cabinet until Trudeau is forced to announce his resignation and the leadership hopefuls resign to participate in the race. So a reshuffle as the race kicks off and another shuffle after the new leader is selected, likely in the next 3 or 4 months.

I suspect that Trudeau will either prorogue or dissolve Parliament before January 27th.
Having said that, the LPC is full of themselves so it would not surprise me if they carried on thinking they can survive until October.

It seems the leader of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition is asking the Governor General for more that she can give. I'm not aware that the G-G has that authority.
I have written the Governor General confirming that the Prime Minister has lost the confidence of the House and that Parliament must be recalled to hold a vote before the end of the year on triggering an Axe The Tax election.

"Technically" she has reserve powers and can dismiss the Prime Minister that has never been done. It is asking for trouble.

In review the rules of Parliamentary procedure.............a recall (not a summoning) is generally done by the Speaker in consultation/on advice of the government.
The GG does not normally have role.
Technically, parliament is recessed now, but within an ongoing session of Parliament.
The nuance here is that post-election it is the GG who 'summons' parliament; though this is typically done conferring with the incoming government.
