Hilton to tower over Niagara Falls, Ont

The Hilton Niagara Falls will mark the traditional start of the peak summer tourism season in a big way.

The Niagara Falls, Ont., hotel will be welcoming the first guests to its $200 million, 59-story wing on May 22, the start of the U.S. Memorial Day weekend. The wing will be home to 500 suites, plus restaurants and a top-floor nightclub.

At 59-stories, the Hilton’s new wing is the tallest hotel in Canada and with 1,000 rooms the Hilton will be one of the largest in Canada.

“We’ve had a huge response,†said Anthony Annunziata, Hilton vice president of marketing and development. “It reinforces our decision to do this project.â€

The Hilton is located just across Fallsview Boulevard from the Fallsview Casino Resort.

Annunziata said he expects the hotel to be sold out during Memorial Day weekend and interest has been strong through out the summer.

The new wing features a combination of two-bedroom and three-bedroom suites. The upper floor will have two 1,500-square-foot presidential suites, which are expected to open in early June.

All of the suites offer picturesque views of either Niagara Falls or the Niagara region.

Also included in the project is Romano’s Macaroni Grill, which also opens in time for Memorial Day. Brasa, a Brazilian-themed steakhouse will open by late June. Rain, a 10,000-square-foot nightclub, on the hotel’s top floor will open by September.

The Hilton’s new wing is the latest in a series of hospitality and tourism-based developments to take place in Niagara Falls. The city has 14,000 hotel rooms, third most in Canada.

Two weeks ago, work began on the $100 million Niagara Falls Convention & Civic Centre, the city’s first ever full scale convention center. The convention center is due to open in April 2011.

a small problem but the article said that this is 59 stories and the thread title sais 58.

Build Up, stories like that are notoriously unreliable. This may be another building without a 13th floor, which could have skewed the story, who knows; we'll wait until Redroom reports on his first ride up the elevators.

hey, my first assignment! Ive read so many newspaper stories about this and the floor count has ranged anywhere from 48 - 60. Trying to count the floors visually from the outside can be tricky because of odd floor heights on the bottom levels. My personal opinion is that they have been a bit generous with the numbers though and would suspect the real count is likely around 50. You know what, I need to go out for cat food right now, so why dont I swing by with my camera - hopefully before it rains!

stay tuned...

Front and back views... I count 48 floors plus mechanical. Not sure if this got downsized from the original proposal or if they just inflated the numbers for some marketing purpose (which eludes me)

thanks for the great shots Redroom (as always~)

while the Hilton looks ok on the front (east), that rear (west) facade is a disgrace ... and unfortunately that what most Niagara Falls residents get to see ... a big ugly blank wall

however, I wish to note that this Hilton hotel is a great place to stay if you plan to spend the night in the area, I really enjoyed my time there

Guess it got down-sized, no way this 'thing' is still 172m.
Not sure which one is uglier, the original building or the expansion.

On a side note, just noticed the 14th floor sky bridge, probably one of the highest in the country.

Redroom - this is possibly your greatest shot ever - and that includes a long line of great shots. You're a real artist dude - I hope you're making some good money from this!

Once you are able to get in, (and hopefully get a ride to the top too), it'll be really interesting to hear if they skip any floor numbers inside to get to their advertised total, or maybe there are a couple of storeys behind some of the larger windows.

Comparing it to this. I think they did reduce the number of floors. It doesn't seem to dominate the other tower as much in the pictures as it does the drawings.

42, thanks for the compliment... though I would disagree with you re this shot. No, not making any money but something might be in the works for the Indigo Hotel being renovated on Carlingview!

As the drawings show, several floors have been omitted... its easiest to figure out what happened when you break the building into sections where the ledge detail appears. Bit of a disappointment that it was cut back and equally disappointing that they are hyping some exaggerated numbers.
