News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Checked out the HMV pop-up store at Toys-r-Us recently, which would seem to just be carrying overstock from Sunrise Records given that that's their corporate number on the barcode

Based on past reactions from @Towered among others (and myself) certain private-label (store brand) product developers have fumbled a bunch in the the last 18 months.

That said, I thought I'd do my thing and share some of the stuff you will see on grocery shelves shortly, if its not there yet:

Interesting to see today that Metro is leaving Air Miles effective July 21.
They are starting up their own in-house rewards program "Moi Rewards" (perfectly walking that French/English line).
I don't use Air Miles, but my parents do and I'll have to tell them to cash in ASAP as they certainly aren't flying anywhere or shopping at H&M anytime soon.

EDIT: This was apparently announced in April but only with a "late 2024" end date, so clearly they have greatly accelerated the timeline.

Retail Insider has an article about Uniqlo opening 3 more stores in the GTA. But at the end it quotes someone that a major international retailer is entering the Canadian market. So here is my wish list: Galleries Lafayettes, Seko, Selfridges or Brown Thomas from Ireland.

Brown Thomas is owned by Selfridges (or some private equity shop that it bought it from the Weston's); speaking of I assume the major entrant is Primark, meaning that much more of our dollars will be going to a single family.

Primark would be brilliant...unfortunately the Weston's don't need anymore of our money.
