Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Then - guessing 1973-ish [going by the cars], and last night. Yonge looking NNE from Dundas. Again, I think this thread 'did' this one a few years ago, but I can't be sure.

Then - guessing 1973-ish [going by the cars],

Maybe a year or two later--the Edison's already been sandblasted for Music World, the office tower N of Gerrard's finished, Muntz has already gone pinball, though the old A&A sign's intact...

The CBC tower was between Jarvis and Mutual just North of what is now Sirman Lane. The 6 antenna (white dots) were mounted on the North side of the tower, so it likely this photo was taken Southwest of that location. It does look a bit like a condo sales office.

Another installment of Yonge street 'Then [still 1973-ish] and Now' [today at 3:00pm]. We're looking east along Dundas towards Yonge.

I'd suggest that Dundas Square represents one of the best examples of extreme change in Toronto during the last 50 years,

Second only, of course, to our "new" City Hall and Nathan Phillips' Square.

And ignoring the recent sea of new skyscrapers.

Then. 1980. Queen West north side looking west at towards #312. This is just west of Soho.

On a related note: the parking lot on the northwest corner of Soho and Queen - out of picture on the right - has been there for a mighty, mighty long time.

Can't forget the old Downtown Theatre, which was later converted to the "Dundas Square" retail space:

What I find interesting is how the Downtown's sign pylon went from being sent in a few feet on the Yonge side to stranding the Yonge/Dundas Square corner.

Also, in the first photo, the original O'Keefe sign which the empty 70s scaffold once supported.
