YONGE AND CARLETON LOOKING EAST--1970
YONGE AND CARLETON LOOKING EAST--1970
There is a whole group of these. A friend of mine , Leonard Poole , went for a walk up and down Yonge in 1970 just to use up a couple of rolls of B/W. I am a big fan of every picture done before 1975.
Sleepy Hollow, according to the map in Boulton's Atlas of 1858, was on College Street west of University. To pinpoint--Murray Street stopped at Taddle Creek. Sleepy Hollow was in a line with Murray Street. Coming forward, is that the old Board of Education building?
I'm betting your friend, Leonard Poole, made these photographs with a 2 1/4 square format camera on 120 size film.
Would it have been a Rolleiflex or Rolleicord?
Do you know if my guess is valid?
That would be 149 College street: the Stewart Building/Athletic Club/Police headquarters/Ontario College of Art and Design and presently, U of T's Rotman School.
Wwwebster, is there an article attached to the picture?
It does seem to be done from waist level doesn't it? Great street photography.
I have been in touch with Leonard , Goldie and Mustapha , I will get back to you with the details. Would this be the right thread to upload all 54 photos? Definitely worth a look.
Many of us love to see 'street photography.'
Perhaps we will use some of the images for more 'Then & Now'.
Why not open a new string? Call it "Street Photography 1970s"
The article is in the April 1918 issue of Construction.
