Google didn't have as good fare info, and couldn't really tie in assets like park and ride. I found triplinx had more "creative" route options if you wanted

Google does now especially if you have a Presto card in your Google wallet. It has an option to use a fare card for transit information now.
 
I preferred Triplinx too. It was nice to be able to email yourself an itinerary and I felt psychologically more comfortable using an official tool with transit data, rather than 3rd party. But then, I come from Slovakia, whose capital city didn't have any Google Maps transit data until about 4 years ago.

Definitely view the cancellation of Triplinx negatively. For what possible reason did we need Siemens to develop a new app when this one worked just fine?

Okay, I clicked on the link for their journey planner (thanks!), it looks like a back-end service that Siemens has been working on and selling for a while now. Is $2.3M enough to give it a Metrolinx front-end app on both Android and iOS? I'm sure not, and there's probably a lot of devils in the details, but since I don't have a paid Merx account I of course can't see the related 25 contract award docs. I'm guessing this money is just for scoping work... ?
 
I'm not a fan of Siemens as a company - I've experienced the way they try to bully smaller companies - but they seem to be offering an established software product that's already used in a bunch of urban setting, and already has a smart phone native interface.

Metrolinx may also have been impressed by the ability to offer routes based on different objectives - fastest or lowest cost or most sustainable:

Not sure if this belongs in the presto thread but tried taking the TTC, THEN GO THEN TTC again within about 30 mins, and it seems the TTC transfer didn't extend to 3 hours like I believe it did in the past.

Going to try taking the ttc again AFTER the first transfer expires and seeing if the 2nd ride is free when taking a GO trip in the middle.

I had used the GO first then the TTC after in April and the TTC transfer was valid till 3 hours AFTER the initial GO tap. I might have a photo somewhere if you want.
