The old Morrisey tavern up at Yonge and Davenport had far more character than McVeigh's ever will. Another classic beer dive was the basement tavern at the Strathcona Hotel (pre-renovations of course). I always chuckle to myself when I walk by that slick Asian fusion restaurant on Queen West where the Beverley Tavern used to be. I can't quite take it seriously knowing it is the same place that used to serve meat on a stick to its patrons getting hammered on draft.
Ah, the Bev. And the draft. Many an afternoon well spent there - with the soundtrack to Shaft, Stompin' Tom's Bud The Spud, and Tumbleweed Connection pounding out on the jukebox - when we should've been in class listening to Lily Maley.
