Toronto will be giving Mayor David Miller quite the golden handshake: $166,000.
Miller announced last week, he will not run again for the mayor's chair at the end of 2010.
His severance payout equals one full year's salary.
City councillors and the Mayor, get one month's severance for each consecutive year on the job.
The package used to be add up to a maximum of six months, but ten years ago that package was bumped to a maximum of 12 months compensation.
Add up Miller's years as a councillor and as mayor, and he qualifies for the full twelve month payout.
Since the severance is based on his last salary, Miller will be getting a severance package based on the Mayor's job, even though he's been in the mayors chair for six years.
