Mayor John Tory's Toronto

He straight to my face went off on how people who make middle incomes need to pay up so that bums (paraphrasing here!) can get their entitlements because "life is hard in this town" at my door during the last election.

As I'm there looking at him, in my overpriced rental flat, with my debts, and my taxes all paid up with not entitlements accrued ever, and my quite literally back-breaking job....

He can sod off. And stay sodded.

He's just like Denzil Minnan-Wong just with a different ideological mental block.

LOL; he didn't know you were rich................. 🤣

He thought he was making the right pitch; which in your area, he typically would be; he keeps getting elected.

*****

In truth, while the largest additional revenues are needed from the ultra-rich, and the merely rich................its not wrong to suggest that middle income taxation writ-large could be higher in Canada.

Though that likely wouldn't be in the form of higher 'rates'.

Rather higher sales tax; property tax in Toronto on SFH, and fewer income deductions Federally.

*****

Of course, its also not wrong to ask the City to prioritize its existing dollars more wisely; ahem Gardiner Hybrid.

My salary was like 20k less than it is now when I talked to him too! Wait til he shows up the next election! :D

Well then he's a fool with bad intel anyway. He legit tried his lame socialist nonsense in the one old building in Parkdale that is and has been for a long time, firmly middle-class.

I don't know why people keep electing him. I don't think they've talked to the guy. ;)

I would hope the gentrification takes care of his careerism.

The deductions! My word, what a stupid and convoluted taxation-deduction scheme we have. It's a joke. Get rid of all of it.
VAT could be higher, yeah. It's 22% in Czechia. 22%! Imagine people's reaction here if ours rose to that. hahahaha
Also, SFHs should be taxed out of existence in most of Toronto.

The Gardiner.

I hope it dies and goes to hell though it be an inanimate object. What a sore. It's embarrassing.

I like Tory well enough (I voted for my boy Kevin Clarke last time though)...he's boring which is good and he's a decent man, which is good. But if I ever meet him, he's getting blasted for the Gardiner, the old bastard.

City confirms Nick Mantas is now officially the councillor for Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt. Of 66,042 eligible voters, 12,102 turned out via combo of in-person voting, early voting and (for the first time ever) mail-in voting. 18% turnout.

The lowest turnout polling location was the Tendercare Living Centre at 1020 McNicoll Ave, where there were 133 registered voters but none cast a ballot. 0% turnout. That’s strange.

18% turnout, lol. What's the read on this guy? Progressive, centrist, or regressive? I have little faith that Scarborough can produce a councillor that isn't some kind of selfish clown.

He's been a Jimmy K staffer for well over a decade, going back to his days as an isolated, social conservative in the nosebleed section of the Liberals' backbenches. With that kind of loyalty - and little experience doing anything else in his life, expect more of the same.

I have request for advice:

The city website is pretty garbage. It's dated. The UI is cheap. It doesn't work on Tor.

Did you just say that our municipal government isn't accessible to users of Tor?
I did!

Are the provincial and federal governments equally inaccessible to their citizens?
They are not!

It's a giant piss-take, if you ask me.

So I wanted to email the city government about it. Problem is, I don't want to talk to my councillor. Me and Perks aren't on speaking terms....nor are me and my MP. My MPP's a lovely person though. 1/3....story of my life.

Anyway, who should I bother about the sad, sad state of the city's website?

Should I bother emailing the mayor?

You could try......

The City Manager's Office: cmofeedback@toronto.ca
'
That's the head bureaucrat.

a) They will know who to refer it to

b) If the referral comes from them, you're likely to get an answer.

Sounds great! There is no way the City Manager insults my intelligence to the point of me telling them off.

Right?.......please?

CafeTO (curbside patios) have been approved for another year.

Of note:

It passed unanimously by a show of hands, as did all motions.

Motion by Cllr. Fletcher passed asking for ways to improve materiality and design.

Motion by Cllr Crawford to expand the program in the suburbs (is he actually suggesting taking away vehicle lanes on major streets???

Oh, and this from our Mayor:

See! I told ya Tory was a decent bloke!

Honestly, other than the Gardiner....I'd vote for him.....if Kevin Clarke wasn't on the ballot.

I feel about John Tory, the way Churchill felt about Americans..........(according to unproven attribution)

“Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.”

Sub in

"John Tory“ can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.”

Budget Debate on-going at City Hall today (mostly virtually).

Just in case anyone thought DMW could lower himself further............from today's debate (via Matt Elliott's play by play on Twitter)

DMW isn't wrong. I mean, they already are camps for homeless people, but never mind that.

Maybe he's just pointing out the obvious. :)

PS: The pissers at the bottom of the Bill Davis trail are THE BEST. Winterised and cozy! If we had something like that in every park, I myself might give up on paying rent.

Kindly don't help DMW in his arguments! LOL

We already have encampments in parks with no open washrooms.

Putting aside his insensitivities........

The logical extreme of his argument would be that we should close all public washrooms.

In which case, I would vote to start with City Hall, on the Councillor's Offices level.
