London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Good news for London area transit. The Wellington Gateway {southern BRT route} is beginning construction this month with the first section opening by 2025. The East Link is already well under construction and could begin operations in less than 18 months. The Downtown Loop will be done later this year and began first because the other 2 trunk routes can't operate downtown without it.

Also St.Thomas is FINALLY getting serious about a desperately needed route connecting to London and is meeting with Mulroney to get seed money. The mayor has stated that it must come VERY fast as Amazon opens it new massive facility near the city on the main highway to London which will employ a numbing 2,000 24/7 workers by the end of this year and right now there is not a single bus to get anybody there from St.Thomas or London.

London has wanted a service between the 2 for a long time but has balked at bringing it in because there is about a 2km gap between the City and St.Thomas boundaries and, understandably, doesn't feel like providing a service to Elgin county that the people in Elgin won't have top pay for but Londoners would.
 
"Meet" = plan to ambush the minister at a conference, lmao. Seed money from where? They missed the boat on the community transportation grant funding.
Yeah. Governments are going in reverse on big funding announcements, tempering expectations as much as possible. I don’t think they’re going to be very successful.

The possible London-St. Thomas route would connect to the southernmost part of the BRT. It has no intention of going to the Amazon facility. That is way out of the way and only serves one business at certain times of the day when there are shift changes. If there is a need for transit, perhaps Amazon itself should provide a shuttle service. This is not for the LTC / taxpayers to fund.

Amazon is moving towards flexible "anytime" shifts

And the fulfilment centre is pretty much on a direct path between St. Thomas and the 401.. an added 1-2 minutes vs. taking the straighter route on country roads..

It still seems like quite the commitment to simply cater to one business. If you routed more directly you could put a couple stops before you leave St Thomas and one in Lynhurst too.

Regardless of the route it would take, it is needed for sure as St. Thomas continues to grow at double digit pace.

I don't disagree. Amazon built a warehouse in Ottawa far to the east of the urban boundary off Highway 417 and it is served by shuttles, not by OC Transpo. The Amazon warehouse in Bolton has its own shuttle, despite the Caledon Transit link now in place. But in Brampton, the 511 Zum pretty much is the Amazon shuttle, to the point that Brampton Transit cut off service on that part of the route during the peak of the pandemic as their own drivers were getting sick.

However, the route between Downtown St. Thomas and White Oaks Mall isn't too far out of the way to serve the warehouse, and if the ridership there helps to make the entire route financially feasible, I don't see the problem.
 
I believe this is a new rendering of the Wellington Gateway south BRT project (Wellington and Bradley). Hope the planting actually happens.

Folks, it's time the good people of St. Thomas get the subway they deserve.
It is the railroad city after all- and subway is rail.
