King Street East

The foot of Parliament isn't King Street East - heck, not only is it the other side of the railway, it's also the other side of the Gardiner, and even the other side of Lakeshore! We were discussing redevelopment of an existing area - this is nothing to do with the Waterfront. Obviously the let people do what they do policy that has worked reasonably well on King, isn't going to work for what is for all intents and purposes, a new district.

The 'let people do what they do policy' on King Street East you speak of exists only in your mind. The King & Parliament area has had a very well-defined community plan in place for many years. It is this vision that is shaping the area and preserving it's past, not 'the marketplace' as you suggest. In fact even in spite of this plan there has been a struggle to prevent new single-purpose car dealerships etc from moving in. And the King East plan is not an isolated strip - it is integral to what is happening all the way down to the lakeshore. http://www.toronto.ca/planning/urbdesign/pdf/14kingparliament.pdf

And what do you mean where have I been? I made many negative comments about our bigot of a mayor's freakish waterfront proposals. But that doesn't have anything do with this ... I fail to understand the attempt at threadjacking.
My point is with respect to wild-west planning, a perfect example of which is the Ford's recent attempt to derail the Waterfront Toronto plan. Which would have effected King East directly, incidentally.

Of course there's stuff like that ... there always is. There isn't the kind of Waterfront Toronto masterplan though. No one has gone out and blocked the construction of the existing 1-story big box operations. No one has banned 1-story car dealerships. I can't believe you don't see the difference between how King East has developed and what Waterfront is doing!
