King-Queen-Roncy Intersection/ROW

This from Gord perks' newsletter>

The City’s contractor continues to work on Roncesvalles Avenue and The Queensway. Travel lanes continue to be reduced on The Queensway from Glendale Avenue to Parkside Drive.

Updates on each of the work areas is summarized below:

Roncesvalles Avenue

  • Work crews have completed base asphalt on Roncesvalles Avenue (top asphalt remains).
  • Line marking will be completed in the next coming days.
  • Roncesvalles Avenue reopened to vehicles March 14th 2023.
  • Work will continue with the installation of various TTC streetcar track platforms (from Queen St to Dundas St) modification/extension work with only lane restrictions as necessary.
  • Work will also continue overnight on Roncesvalles Avenue for overhead wiring for TTC streetcars.
  • Pending completion of civil works, TTC 504 King Streetcar service is scheduled to resume at the start of May.
The Queensway

  • TTC track work is ongoing between Glendale Avenue and Parkside Bridge.
  • The Stage 2 work is to be completed in late Spring 2023. Upon completion, all travel lanes on The Queensway will be restored.
  • Once civil works are completed, extensive overhead power system upgrades will be installed to allow for the resumption of regular 501 Queen Streetcar Service in the Summer.

I was on a bus when it unexpectedly started driving up Roncesvalles on Tuesday, and it was like the heavens opened! Finally! Travelling to Dundas West will take ten minutes by transit - not upwards of 25-30 minutes.
Now the bad news. Instead of rebuilding the streetcar stop platforms at the same time as the KQRQ intersection, they are doing it now. Hence the use of buses.

Someone remind me when streetcars are to return to the Queensway?? What year will it be at the rate the work is taking place today from what I saw and shot.

That form work for an retaining wall is still in place with no concrete pour for it yet, as well other parts of it not form.

Looks like all the waterwork and stormwater work is done to allow grading the area from the westbound platform area to another extension of track work from Parkside. Trackwork in place and pour where the westbound platform is to be, but no platform yet.

They had added another road area on the westside of Glendale Ave to support part of the left turning lane.

2 columns still remain to be install east of the eastbound platform.

The 2 new platforms for Queen St on Roncesvalles are in place now, with the northbound on even further north than where it was before in the name of cars.

Work is underway on the existing platforms and don't match what was done for the 2 new ones. Asphalt top coat has been removed for the full length of the platform. Concrete work has only been done where the accessibility ramp is located with a grove in it. This is right where the shelter is. Started yellow platform edge at the sidewalk area now. Did have time to check other ones, but you could see the northbound platform was seeing the same thing as the southbound one.

Roncesvalles road needs a top coat of asphalt.

As a note, King is 100% pan ready from Queen to Dufferin now, waiting for the 504 to use it.

Photos to follow.

As noted above with all 48 shots now up on site

In the name of traffic, please walk further north of Queen for your stop

Still not done 🤣
It's going to be a race to the finish line to see which one opens first, either the Crosstown LRT or this laughing languishing joke of a reconstruction project. Every time I pass by this site there's literally no work going on, so I dont know if they're working for 2 hours a day and then call it quits until the next day.

I'm sure they'll probably find a track/road defect 1 month after this thing is finally finished, which will probably force another months long closure of Queensway.

That's been the trend with the new stop locations - for example along King Street. Though this stop was always quite far north - even before the rebuild of the stop around 2010 or so.

Looking in Streetview, the old shelter location is about the middle of the current platform. But the pole itself was about 15 metres further south. So the old pole was at the south end of the new stop - and the stop has moved about 30 metres north.

Is there still a south-side stop as well?

Waiting for May 6, 2023. That's the last day (allegedly) for the 504C replacement buses operating from Dundas West Station to Mill Street.

Wonder if they'll discover any "discrepancies" with the track-work on Roncesvalles Avenue.

Waiting for the streetcar right-of-way west of Roncesvalles... again.

I meant a northbound south side stop. That looks like a southbound south side stop.
That is the southbound and the other one is the only northbound stop now. The other one has removed as plan.
