Honda HO goes to Markham.

I don't know where you would find 19 hectares, or even half that, in downtown Toronto. Some operations will just naturally gravitate to the greenfields.

The location is probably a saw-off between their present location in north Scarborough (which has probably determined place of residence for many of their employees) and the fact that they will want reasonably good access back and forth to their Alliston operation.

Edit: I wouldn't cry too much if I were in Richmond Hill, they have a good site available, which someone else will come along and take, particularly as the preliminary development work has now been done.

Its probably for the best. Markham is one big sprawl, with no real centre, so having it there wont even make a dent on the landscape.

You don't need 19 hectares for an office tower. But you do have a point that uses like a parts distribution centre are better in a truck friendly environment like the burbs beside a highway.

There's no reason why Honda Canada couldn't be in a tower downtown T.O. (similar to GM in Detroit), even though the concept sounds weird for some reason.
Corporate property taxes (or rents) in Toronto are probably much higher, plus most of their employees would live in the 905. Plus, why would you want to build your HO in a city that is on the brink of bankruptcy and is led by a socialist-mayor when there are cities like Markham that are financially in good shape?

Toronto's corporate taxes are higher. We all know that. No "probably" about it.

And calling Mayor Miller a "socialist" isn't going to get you much shock & awe aroud here.

Of course, one could easily turn it all around and say that 905 business taxes are kept low so as to attract business from Toronto, or tp keep business in those cities.

If Miller is a socialist, he's going out of his way to avoid acting like one.

How exactly is Markham or any city in the 905 in financially good shape when they raise taxes more each year than Toronto? A real socialist mayor would raise taxes more than David Miller does.

he is right in Brampton they have a shortage, they increase the taxes.

As most people around 70-90% don't have a clue what the hell thier city council does or is, they get away with it.

In Toronto you have like 4 news stations and like 3-4 papers, so most people know what is going on....

well in Toronto if there is a tax increase it is front page news in the paper and the lead story in the news.
