Green Party of Canada: Leadership Race

The Greens internal meltdown seems to be continuing apace; while the Star is leaked recordings of more than 1 internal meeting.

Behind the paywall:

There's always internal party squabbles when a new leader is elected, but this makes the old Chretien-Martin rift look tepid.

Lemme guess - white males running the party behind the scenes trying their hardest to sabotage their black, female, Jewish, shaved-headed leader?

Shocking!

I think it is thoroughly unfair to say it is due to racism or antisemitism. That implies the alternative is to treat minorities with kid gloves for fear of being branded a bigot. Politics is rough and tumble.

Best of luck advancing that reasoning in today's climate...

Mate.....these days it's participation ribbons all around.

More inner party conflict

The statement by Atwin was questionable in as much as what the Green Party of Canada leader, who is not elected, nor in government has to say about an intractable conflict 1/2 a world away matters very little.

The statement by Zatzman was overtly incendiary and the sort of thing for which staff ought to be sent packing.

All parties have degrees of conflict of this type; but the penchant of the last several weeks to air them all in public seems odd; and not particularly wise.

I have to think their backroom party-insider fights and fiascoes are not any worse or more frequent than those of the other big parties, but the Greens seem to always have theirs go public in seconds. It's like their members are way too involved in these media/politics-Twitter circles where spilling the beans is more important than keeping dirty laundry all in the family, and that makes a huge difference in this age. They have lost a lot of credibility as an organisation here.

It's one thing for a party with 100+ MPs - they only have 3 (well now 2) MPs! Mind you, this is probably a variant of Sayre's Law:

So much drama...
