GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Wow, looked it up and I'm surprised FedBus now costs $26 to Richmond Hill/Markham.
I'm surprised there still is a FedBus. It had it's uses decades ago when there was zero GO services into Kitchener, and you had to trek down to Kitchener to catch the bus (or VIA train) to Toronto.

But it seems a bit pointless to me, to the GTA, given the services to 407 station. Looks like there's one to London too. Now that makes sense.

How does it even get much use at $26 - for a school bus. The 30 to 407 Station only costs $16.11 with Presto - and far more comfort and space.

(the prices are baffling, with the 3 different routings having the same e-Ticket fare, and a few cents difference with Presto ...)

I went to UW and in my experience GO is fairly responsive once they realize there's an issue, so if the crowding is regular my guess is they'll start sending extra (unscheduled) buses to relieve crowding within a few weeks.
They also might be anticipating a drop off in demand as students, especially first year students, get more comfortable and start finding more things to do and more reasons to stay on or around the campus over the weekend rather than go back home. That usually happened in my experience where student housing areas would go from being a weekend ghost town to still busy by October.

For those lamenting the lack of LSE Express trains...take note. Others seem to be able to make improvements. I don't see any mention of a big capital spend, the improvements came thru simulations and analysis.

Unusual sight this morning at unionville... is this a test set of some sort or did someone charter this ultra short set to go somewhere? 🤔

Looks like a rescue train more than anything. I’m unaware of anything happening though.
To expand on this, a similar rescue train was in action on the Kitchener Line last week. It was suggested in the comment section that having the rescue loco coupled to two cars got around speed restrictions and allowed it to go at MAS (Maximum Authorized Speed), as it gave it more braking performance. Does that jive with anyone with that kind of knowledge?

VIA sometimes operates a similar rescue setup from Montreal with a loco at either end and an LRC in between - I recall seeing pictures of one being sent to fetch a dead Siemens trainset on the Quebec route a few months ago.

Not braking - CN's signalling system requires at least 12 axles in order to accurately trigger the signals and crossing detection. Thus, for GO equipment, a loco with 2 cars is the minimum needed to meet that requirement.

Any chance theres more detail on those LSE trips?

With Confederation opening and it most likely at hourly all day service, ML should make new plans and make changes to new or existing buses and focus on expanding to Niagara region. There’s little to no reason now that the 11 should do the milk run, but maybe it could still go to Hamilton Centre for connections to the various other GO buses and then stop there instead of heading all the way to Aldershot after.

In other news, hopefully that additional trip to Unionville also heads back to Union and fill in one of the bi hourly gaps. As of right now its 3:39PM, 5:37PM, 7:39PM, so most likely it could be a trip at 6:39PM?
