Wow, looked it up and I'm surprised FedBus now costs $26 to Richmond Hill/Markham.
I'm surprised there still is a FedBus. It had it's uses decades ago when there was zero GO services into Kitchener, and you had to trek down to Kitchener to catch the bus (or VIA train) to Toronto.Wow, looked it up and I'm surprised FedBus now costs $26 to Richmond Hill/Markham.
They also might be anticipating a drop off in demand as students, especially first year students, get more comfortable and start finding more things to do and more reasons to stay on or around the campus over the weekend rather than go back home. That usually happened in my experience where student housing areas would go from being a weekend ghost town to still busy by October.I went to UW and in my experience GO is fairly responsive once they realize there's an issue, so if the crowding is regular my guess is they'll start sending extra (unscheduled) buses to relieve crowding within a few weeks.
To expand on this, a similar rescue train was in action on the Kitchener Line last week. It was suggested in the comment section that having the rescue loco coupled to two cars got around speed restrictions and allowed it to go at MAS (Maximum Authorized Speed), as it gave it more braking performance. Does that jive with anyone with that kind of knowledge?Looks like a rescue train more than anything. I’m unaware of anything happening though.
VIA sometimes operates a similar rescue setup from Montreal with a loco at either end and an LRC in between - I recall seeing pictures of one being sent to fetch a dead Siemens trainset on the Quebec route a few months ago.To expand on this, a similar rescue train was in action on the Kitchener Line last week. Not braking - CN's signalling system requires at least 12 axles in order to accurately trigger the signals and crossing detection. Thus, for GO equipment, a loco with 2 cars is the minimum needed to meet that requirement. To expand on this, a similar rescue train was in action on the Kitchener Line last week.
