GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It appears the Milton Line was the first to get a platform. Although I did see an UP Express train leave it but not sure if it was revenue service. Barrie was next. 15:53 rescheduled to 16:25 on platform 4 (not pictured because it popped up as I was typing)

In a way it's kind of good that the failure happened right before the PM peak, because the single-tracked lines (Stouffville and Barrie) don't have counter-peak service. So they can send out a bunch of trains at arbitrary times without being limited by the location of passing tracks to meet oncoming trains.

The schedules at this point are irrelevant (it sounds like they're just running to headways) but on paper this is the largest delay on a moving train that I've seen to date:

This is incredibly vague to the point of being misleading. The tweet should have mentioned that it was only in reference to the PM Peak service today. Here's the actual message from the GO website. 30 minute is the target peak direction headway and counter-peak (where applicable) should be 30-60 minutes

The service alert directs you to a link to see current departure information, but when I click it I get a message that there are no departures, which is clearly false because I can see trains departing on GO Tracker.

2 train per hour would be brutal for the Lakeshore lines given that they normally run 4 to 6 trains per hour during the PM peak. I would assume that for those lines it's a case of underpromise and overdeliver, since they need to run a lot of trains outbound anyway to get to their layover yards at the ends of the lines in order to start the morning service tomorrow. I hope they wouldn't just send out two local trains per hour and call it a day.

The Milton line is generally running on schedule because it is dispatched entirely by CP and TTR, not CN. The 16:55 departure from Union seems to have disappeared off GO Tracker, but via word of mouth I've heard it is actually running as per schedule.

How is it that the entire GO and UP systems go down because of a CN issue when, according to Wikipedia, GO owns 80% of its tracks?

Yeah since it was a CN issue the Milton trains seemed to be largely unaffected. My 17:55 train departed a few minutes late, but tbh that's pretty normal for that train. But Union itself was packed with delayed passengers today.

So this is basically the transit version of the Rogers outage that happened last year.

It's not Kitchener. It is literally everything.
werid this usually only happens when I ride 😂
Usually I don't agree with some of your opinions, but this has to be some of the worst luck and now its somewhat understandable.

30 minute GO service from London to Peterborough and Niagara to Barrie all day every day confirmed!

Seriously though after this, there will for sure be some people who will turn away from the train and going back/going to start driving again or carpool. This might be where they pull the 30 min all day service to Bramalea/Unionville and bring back 15 min all day to Oakville and Oshawa to try to win some riders back.

The 17:55 train was cancelled, you were on the 17:25 train leaving 35 minutes late.

Wait Milton line is going to get trains every 30 minutes??
It was technically 8-15 minute peak service depending on how you measure it.
I wonder what route the 88C express takes. The fastest route would be via the 407E and and 418, but I don't know if the province waives the fees on the 407E (which they own) for GO. They really should, it's the least they could do to make that public expenditure of theirs at least a little bit useful for people who don't own cars.

Also, Flixbus and Rider Express aren't the only ones running from Toronto to Ottawa via Peterborough, Book a Ride does as well.
Transsee shows the 88c using Highway 115 and Highway 401.

That's strange. I was checking gotracker.ca here and there and it didn't mention any Milton line trains being cancelled. And the departure board once I got to Union around 5:30 showed 17:55 and it didn't have any notes that it was cancelled. It just said to go to platform 4 for the 17:55 train. Whereas Lakeshore line departures did mention cancellations and adjustments. All that matters was that there was a train at 17:55.

I'd try claiming the service guarantee, you're probably eligible.
