GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I imagine that ML probably wants to wait until the fall to see if masks, etc are reintroduced although Australia is already in winter and states there have not yet committed to reintroducing them, despite rising caseloads yet again.

What I was told it was a cost thing. Taking them out costs money so they want to lump it in with other work.

Since the current schedules go to June 24, my guess is that there will be an announcement Wednesday/Thursday of next week since that's the usual pattern.
GO is sort of smart with keeping their schedules not updated on trip planners until after they make their announcements, but it gets really annoying as you can check them on the local agencies before they announce anything. Brampton for example does just that and it’s sort of satisfying seeing the changes before anyone else does.

Also, if you're booking a connecting VIA train you want to do that well in advance to get affordable prices, but then you don't yet know if/when the connecting GO train will run.

Although they send the new timetables to other agencies beforehand, it doesn't seem to be early enough for some agencies to update their connecting bus services on time. Some agencies, such as Ontario Northland seem to have a lag time during which the connections don't line up.

One of my Railfan friends Taylor out in Stratford noted that they just put up L10 and L12 markers in Stratford, installed today. they are also at St. Marys. No L8 msrker or mp40 markers.

Ooohhh; you're one of those narrow-shouldered people......

LOL

My shoulders are wider than the entire seat. (not by much), but that plexi can be quite cramping. I end up on the aisle so I can lean out a bit.

I think there is a discussion to be had about appropriate seat width and pitch and how perhaps for these considerations they should size seats so that the likelihood of someone not fitting in a standard seat is unlikely (i.e. <5% or even more) and provide for a way to convert standard seats into double wide seats for that remaining 2%. However, aside from the increasing of seat space, the partitions are good for protecting your space from those who don't respect your space for whatever reason. Be it coughing without control, bad hygiene, poor etiquette, or size issues... it is important for one person's issues not to become some other person's issues. It doesn't increase utilization of transit to spread misery across a larger population.

Do they plan on running 12 car F59 trains? Because I feel like then they would have to doubleend the locomotives.

Today I took the GO train from Toronto to Niagara Falls.

The 8:51 train was jammed full of people but we made a good clip to the falls. We were only 5 minutes late upon arrival in the falls. My only beef was with WEGO not GO transit.

When we arrived in Niagara Falls, the train emptied out and there were only 2 WEGO buses for a train load of people. When my bus departed the line stretched from the VIA station to the train itself. I was the smart one who was waiting at the very front of the train and hightailed it to the bus when the doors opened.

On the way back, I caught the 3:15 train back as opposed to the last train. It was quite empty relatively speaking. I am used to taking the 7:15 train but I am glad I took the earlier train. I had an entire upper level to myself.

All in all, the service was not as bad as I thought. It was handled well though with the increase in tourists they really need to increase the number of trips. I did the math and even with the WEGO/GO Transit Promo a fully loaded GO train brings in around $25000.

The trip itself was not so bad though I confused the US Border Guards when I crossed into the US. They asked why I was visiting the US and I replied "I am walking across to get lunch at Arbys". His response was "You are crossing an international border to get Arbys... do they not have Arbys in Canada..."

It would have been better to book a hotel room. After being there for so many years, I have seen and done everything. I could not fill the 4 hours between the 3:15 and 7:15 trains had I stayed. The sheer amount of people this year also was somewhat of a nuisance. If I had booked a hotel, I could have seen and done more without all the tourists.

Several hours of train and transit travel, and a border crossing for Arby's? If I didn't know better, I'd say you were trolling the guards........ LOL
