Just to temper everyone's expectations......

At this time, just 3 of the former Metrolink locomotives are to be rebuilt. ONR has only been able to obtain parts for that many.

However, they are continuing to work on finding and purchasing more components, with the hope that most of the 13 will be able to be rebuilt into operating locomotives.

I hope they can get parts for all 13. It would mean that model train maker Althern foretold the future with model they used to sell.

Won't it be difficult to keep them running since most of the components are no longer manufactured? Plus they punched holes into the engines.

What makes you think that most of the components are no longer manufactured? The 710 prime mover is used in a lot of other things than just train locomotives, for instance.

Not only that, but most of the components were common with other locomotives that EMD had built at that time, so it may be a matter of buying different second-hand units for those components.

Does anyone know what Exo is going to do with the F59s that the Chargers will replace? Being ex-GO and then Exo may be they have been worked hard, possibly harder than the Metrolink units, but they may be a parts source for a project like this.
