GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

To be clear I was only suggesting 1 QSK each (2700hp) so for L6s
What about HEP? Run HEP off the prime mover?

If an F40PH and a GP 40 have 3000hp what makes the F59 superior with the same HP? They should all be able to run L10 consist? Why replace them with newer locomotives with the same HP?

1. Separate HEP as the existing F59 setup does
2. This would be more about having a cleaner engine than a more powerful one and if the battery thing goes through there may be QSK60s looking for something to do

Wouldn’t GO mechanics be experienced on EMD 16-645E3 parts? They haven’t rostered any 645 powered locomotives since 1994. Although Metra has plans to retire the F40PHs which are the 150-172 series with 4 already sold off to a Rail training facility in Colorado iirc.

12 cylinders instead of 16, a more robust parts supply industry. Different more modern electrical controls. One parts inventory instead of two.

Going forward, there is lots of opportunity to add shorter trains as the enhanced headways are implemented. GO may not need every unit to handle 12 car consists.

I think the enthusiast side of the room may be overthinking (inventing?) all these alternatives. Only the people who have the spreadsheets on their screens will know what the decision criteria and most viable options are. We may hear the explanation from Property A, but applying their rationale to Property B may be a fool's errand. We mostly have to wait and enjoy the developments as they happen. For now, watching the F59 cores come back to life is what is in front of us.
