There's been some progress where the Barrie line splits off from the Kitchener line near Dundas and Lansdowne.
However, nothing yet immediately to the north going up towards where the Bloor/Lansdowne GO station is being built, and it looks like it might be more complicated with limited space available.
I assume the new second track will likely be on the east side of the existing track all the way up to Bloor, but it's difficult to tell if there's enough space to do that while leaving all of the existing track in place.

Even if they complete Barrie double track, they can’t ramp up service without betraying promises made to the community that it wouldn’t happen without electrification. It would provide more scheduling flexibility, of course.

I wonder would Metrolinx have the cheek to fit MP54s with battery packs as previously teased, operate in DE mode uphill and BE mode downhill, and then say “look - we didn’t increase net diesel usage but doubled service”. But a battery MP54 is years away if ever…

Wow, lots to unpack here

-why the hell did they promise this?
-is there any reasonable possibility of this promise actually being upheld? It's not like promises mean a thing in today's society, but since it involves a major organization screwing over anyone who is not a NIMBY, I could see the promise being upheld.

Why would ML live up ro their promises here when they haven't live up yo their promise to the Weston floks or the one made to the MP for York at a public BOD meeting for elecifting UPX by 2019??

ML march to their own concerens and what they are told to do by the province..

You will get double track service with the standard MP40/54.

During the Davenport Diamond project.

Is the promise binding? Probably not. But if it is broken (and the people of Davenport should have seen that coming given what happened in Weston) good luck persuading any other GTA community that if they have concerns about a rail project that Metrolinx promises should dissuade them from a court or other fight

They had no problem ignoring the promises made to the Weston community. What makes you think that they wouldn't also do the same here?

Just for the record, the commitment to limit diesel trains was a condition of the TPAP approval, so was not only committed to by ML but also approved by a Minister. One would think that this would give some legal protection, but the Ford sleasebags probably have ways to get around that.

The promise to run only Tier 4-certified trains through Weston was also included in the EA, and that didn't make a lick of difference.

Although I suppose that Metrolinx could argue that the ability to run such-and-such train over the is more of a technical problem than anything else. Holding firm on the number of total trains running through a specific area is less of a technical issue and more of an actuarial one.
