GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Dang, so today, the Blue Jays play an afternoon home game with big playoff implications. Simultaneously, Lionel Messi - one of the world's very biggest pup culture figures, perhaps the best soccer player ever - will play for the first and perhaps only time in his career against Toronto FC.

Almost 75,000 fans will attend the two games, both of which are scheduled to end around 6pm.

And get this. ZERO Go trains heading west from Toronto all day today. Zero train service at Exhibition stadium. That's going to be a real bad impression for visiting fans from out of town, yikes! If you're a local going to either game today, I'd highly recommend cycling or something.

It's not ideal....but.... considering how long it takes to line up the logistics and plans for a ML work window, I'm not blaming ML for not waiting to see if the Jays are in good form as the playoffs near.

Maybe ML can plan a massive work window blitz for next April-May during the NHL playoffs, when loads will be down as usual.

Lakeshore East trains are continuing to Exhibition, but there’s no service west of it. No GO service at all at Port Credit.

I know it’s because of work at Long Branch that has to be done, but it’s quite the mess.

Good thing that the Skydome - ooops, Rogers Centre isn't close to the Ex.

But GO will be running a shuttle from Union to the Ex for those who wish to watch the greatest footballer of this generation.

UHH i call BS on that... just look how quickly they added additional trips to rogers stadium after the day 1 fiasco.... its doable... just incompetency to coordinate.

The closures are scheduled around 12 months in advance. Running trains after a special event is totally different from syncing multiple project timelines together for a 48 hour closure

Also what day 1 fiasco at the Roger’s Stadium did Metrolinx respond to? There was always 3 additional southbound trains since the very first concert at the stadium.

When this happens, with 15-minute service, westbound trains arriving at Union are pretty tight. Eastbound trains too I'd assume. And it's extra busy.

Or perhaps the greatest footballer of the last generation. And Messi is about the same age as Saurez!

It's only a 30-minute "shuttle" - i.e. the Lakeshore East terminating at Exhibition. With more passengers than usual boarding at Union. Only one extra shuttle train added before the game. I expect there'll likely be extra after the match.

Anyhow, I should be on on - I'll see how it goes.

Everything I saw was fine. The Jays and TFC fans never really travelled at the same time - at least on the Lakeshore trains. I wouldn't be surprised if there more overlap on the Milton trains (I'm not sure the timing on the others).

The runs I saw terminated at Exhibition. I was really surprised to hear the announcement for my train at Union saying it was only going to Union and then all stops to Milton!

What was bizarre though, was that Milton trains were leaving Exhibition only 6 minutes (well 12 minutes after it finally left with the crowds) after one of the 30-minute only Lakeshore runs that went all the way to Oshawa. So plenty of time to change at Union to catch the every-15 minute Lakeshore East service.

But the announcers on the Exhibition platform were announcing that people who wanted to go further than Union on Lakeshore should wait at Exhibition the extra 24 minutes for the next regular train! Changing at Union was easy .. I'd have been 15 minutes later if I could follow directions. :)

The person who did the great scheduling must be head-palming. :)
