GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Going to be riding the Stouffville Line for the first time on Friday. Anything in particular folks want images of?

- Any visible progress at the bridge/culvert noted above.

- If feasible, the state of tie-ins and signals where the the second track segments begin/end.

Haven’t been up that way since the fall - my questions would be, are there still track shifts between the two tracks between Kennedy and Milliken? Any sign of shiny rails on the second track between Kennedy and Highland? Any progress on a tail track at Mount Joy?
And of course, any evidence of construction activity at the West Highland Creek bridge ?

I don’t see any noticeable changes to the Stouffville line following back-to-back weekend closures. Perhaps it was signalling work that’s needed to be done but we don’t see the progress.

I was hoping for either work on the west highland creek bridge or finishing the track around Milliken station.
The work was for other trackwork and realignment throughout the corridor, and for completing the signal connections in order to activate the second main track.

The last bridge over Highland Creek is currently not scheduled to be completed until the second half of next year.

There are still track shifts between Milliken, Agincourt and Kennedy.

I am curious, what is the significance of shiny rails?

I don’t recall any construction work for a second platform at Mount Joy station.

There is no notable construction activity aside from a new signal mast south of the unconstructed bridge. I believe its new as last week I saw one laying down on the eastern shoulder of the track and now there are two signal masts erected.

It would mean the newly built track (which has been sitting for years now) is actually being used.

If there are still track shifts, it's still effectively a single track line. I had wondered if the recent work blocks might have rectified that. With the two control points at Oakworth and Highland now in service, that section has the potential to operate as double track provided the track shifts are addressed.

Not a platform, just a stub track or siding. That would allow hourly turnback trains to clear the main so that through trains to/from Old Elm could be interleaved, similar to how Barrie trains are interleaved with turnbacks at Aurora. I believe there was a procurement already for this enhancement.

From my fuzzy memory I believe I’ve been in a northbound train while southbound trains pass us by between Milliken-Unionville and Kennedy-Agincourt.

If you've passed another train between Kennedy and Agincourt, that means that they have completed the track shifts in that section and have completely activated the second track. Which is what the work over the past two weekends was to do.

It's certainly well used, as part of the subway station. The elevator to the subway platform is just behind those doors.

Not sure if this belongs in the construction thread but reading the business case for the Etobicoke North demolition/replacement the business case to move to woodbine seems incredibly weak even in the report. https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/...ents/Metrolinx/20181206_BoardMtg_Woodbine.pdf

Even if the development on the north east side is sold out and has high density it's still about a 45+ min walk to the station along a highway.

I know the move is mostly political but wonder will it still go ahead long term?
