GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Metrolinx is not very forthcoming in general, but they seem to be extra secretive when it comes to their dealings with CN or CP. My guess is that they don't want to reveal any information which could compromise their negotiating position.

For example if Metrolinx reveals that CP is willing to do something (e.g. sell a yard), then CP will be able to overcharge Metrolinx since they know that Metrolinx will get a bunch of public pushback if the deal falls through.
Could not any other private business or landowner do the same thing?

Was there not an intention to abandon lambton yard?
Looks pretty busy to me.

Whats the plan with Obico yard? They where working on the cross overs on the lakeshore line. What's the long term plan for the yard?

The FES does not mention GO Expansion/RER.
yes it does?

Building Two-Way All-Day GO Transit

Ontario is transforming the GO rail network into a modern, reliable and fully integrated rapid transit network that will cut down on commute times across the province. Examples of improvements along the GO rail network include:

  • The new Kipling Transit Hub, which was completed in May 2021, bringing improved transit infrastructure to East Mississauga and West Toronto. The transit hub provides customers with full access to the new and improved station that integrates MiWay bus service, TTC subway and bus, and GO rail as well as future GO bus service.
  • Extending the Richmond Hill rail line north to the new Bloomington GO station that was completed in June 2021. The new station includes improved parking, modern customer amenities, and offers more connections to support future growth in the region.
In August 2021, Ontario began providing enhanced train service to customers in the City of Hamilton. The Province introduced hourly GO train service along the Lakeshore West Line between West Harbour GO Station and Union Station each day of the week. The extension of service will provide commuters a closer station with increased access by walking, biking and local transit.

CP talks about it every 10 years or so. We're probably about two-thirds of the way through this cycle, so maybe we'll hear about it again in another 3 years?

Whats the plan with Obico yard?
Not GO's property.

They where working on the cross overs on the lakeshore line.
Canpa? The plans there are to upgrade most of the crossovers to #20s, and to re-install the second track on the former CP Canpa Sub.

What's the long term plan for the yard?
TTC has plans, but they're still not very well known at this point. There's some thought that they will put a small subway yard, build a new bus garage, and/or build a replacement to the Duncan Shops at Hillcrest there.

The last CP guy to decree a closure was E Hunter Harrison, and even EHH (uncharacteristically) left the tracks in place, just in case.

Doesn’t mean someone won’t try to outdo him, but it speaks to how much confidence there is that this can be done.
