GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

New layover facility for the GO Kitchener Line near Heritage Road in Brampton being planned, see the below tender:

DQQ-2020-CMLE-486:Heritage Layover Project TPAP & Detailed Layover Facility Design
Metrolinx in proposing to expand its facilities along Kitchener Corridor, which runs from Union Station to Kitchener. The new layover will provide additional storage capacity which is required to archive the proposed level of service (two-way all-day service to Mount Pleasant GO, with an opportunity to expand to two-way all-day service at Georgetown) and consolidate the operational needs associated with frequent inner service to optimize operations planning for start and end of service. A preliminary study between Metrolinx and CN identified a need for a new additional south track in the proposed location of the layover. The new track will be design and constructed by Canadian National Railway (CN) within its right-of-way.

The dissemblative spin in this announcement really triggers me. The improvements being made are valuable and ultimately essential, but they do not advance the “critical path” tasks that are needed to expedite 2WAD to Kitchener. The new signalling and crossovers in Kitchener improve things for both CN and GO, but the passing tracks at Breslau, Guelph, Rockwood, Acton are what is standing in the way of 2WAD, especially the vital early morning departure from Toronto that would enable reverse flow commuting and business travel. Or maybe there’s an impasse somewhere else that prevents that anyways, and it’s all just tiptoeing around that.
In any event, this is spin over substance.

The waste bin would have to be at the same station where he held a presser for a Tim Horton's Kiosk.

It would be the logical bookend; buy garbage at this kiosk we provided, dispose of it here!
