GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I hopefully will have to get Niagara Go Trains will start rolling into pocket track and cut down from 2h 24 minutes to 2h 4 mins by this month.

The signals cut in will likely take longer than that.

Consider this : When the two west facing dwarf signals are replaced by the three-light masts, the indications of the signals governing trains entering the station that lead to those new signals have to be reprogrammed and tested. And in turn, the indications of the approach signals to those entry signals also have to be redone....and possibly the block (or two) beyond that. Now count the number of different routings and thus permutations and combinations of signal indications into West Harbour from the Hamilton Jct area......it's actually a very complex junction and therefore a pretty large signals installation.

All eminently doable by a qualified signals design and field organization.... but it will take at least one significant outage in that territory, and then troubleshooting of any deficiencies... and then more testing. And the design paperwork may not even be ready as of today, so the field work may not even be happening yet.

One other little nitpick about West Harbour. I hope that installing a fence between the two station tracks is not neglected, because if they don’t lots of people might just cross the tracks to get to the other platform. Especially relevant due to the design of the station and long hike up stairs to get to the other track if you go to the wrong one.

The time saving for peak-period trains will be 10 minutes per trip, not 20, as I have documented here. Metrolinx is advertising "20 minutes saved on your commute" because they're adding both directions together, which is a typical way that they make their statistics misleading. Still, a 10 min saving for peak-period trains is very welcome.

Off-Peak Niagara trains will be able to stop at West Harbour with minimal time penalty, which will finally provide some off-peak express service to Hamilton:

If those trains skip Aldershot when West Harbour is added they could be one minute faster than today because they can bypass Aldershot at up to 129 km/h, versus just 48 km/h through West Harbour currently. If they stop at Aldershot in addition to West Harbour, they will be two minutes slower than today.

Thanks for all the info everyone! The family and I have booked a very non-adventurous simple GO Train trip out to Port Credit. Grab lunch, look around a bit and come right back. Very short and simple, but then so are the kids.
Did you have a look at the LRT at the PC station??

No, we haven't gone yet. :D

We're going tomorrow.
If you going tomorrow, exited the north side of the station and walk up to the new Englewood bridge, then cross Hurontario to go south. You will see the new Mary Fix Creek channel that has been built as well the northern section from the bridge being built. You will cross the tracks for the LRT that are in place on the west side of the and they will swing to the centre about 300-400m to the north.

You will see where the LRT is to go under the tracks as well the new sidewalk on the west side of it. As you head south, you will see the underground station with windows on the side as well the steel work for the new entrance to the station.

It a 4 block walk to the Credit River and looking north you will see the heritage Rail bridge that support 2 track with the non heritage bridge to the north. That view of the heritage bridge will be lost if ML builds the non heritage bridge for the 4th track. There is a plan to have a pedestrian bridge in front of that bridge with a possibility of a road bridge as well, but no clue where it stands today.

You will see the new tower that was build call Westport.

Nice ice cream store for the kids on the Lakeshore.

There is a plan to develop the marina by the Feds and still on the back burner.

If you go another 3 blocks west, you will see the redevelopment of the ESSO site call Brightwater.

Main place for Port Credit from my point of view is between Hurontario and the river.

It is a 25 minute bus ride to Square One Mall on the 2 and you will get a good look of the LRT corridor not done as well where the under construction for the new Mississauga Hospital at the south-west corner at the Queensway.. If you go to the mall, your trip back to the GO station will be a free ride with the fare integration.

Next weekend, ML is shifting the GO track to the new corridor north of Queen and crossing Eastern. Once the the line is shifted, the removal of the bridges for Queen and Eastern will follow for the old line that is over 100 years old.

The same will happen at Dundas in 2025

If you do Sq One, you will get a good view of the 4 towers for the Exchange District, M1 & M2, Parkside Village, Square One District and the city core from the bus terminal platform as well Sheridan College/University.

Especially when the elevator is constantly broken...
