GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

anyone notice a very nice pedestrian/cyclist pathway that was recently constructed along the Georgetown GO Train line between Davenport and Dundas.

Its one of the most well built pathways I have seen in this city...

Look in the railpath thread as there are photo's and comments there. I like how the did the bridges.

There is art work under the Dupont bridge and not sure if it will happen to Bloor as it would help that area.

FWIW, supposedly the hoarding on Union Station's Bay West teamway should have come down today and the new stairs opened. Can anyone confirm?

When I was there today, it looked like some of it has come down. Inside the station, it has been cleared from the stairway to platform 3.

Edit: snapped a quick photo today. I will try to get better and more photos tomorrow. Today I was in a hurry to get my train.

I saw this on Sat and it looked one or 2 maybe ready if the contractor was working late Sunday, let alone Sat night.

Oct 1 Lakeshore West

Work on the 3rd track construction is nearing completion and should be done by year end.

It will be up to CN as to when the new track gets place, but it has already started at Kerr St.

The new track is connected to where the track #1 stop west of Kerr St to the east side with a new crossing at Kerr. A new switch has been cut into the existing track #1 east of Kerr to connect to the new track #1 just before the bridge.

The signal box at Oakville station has been removed to allow final grading to connect to the Oakville station.

Major of the new platform is in place waiting the heating system before it can be top off. New shelters have been installed for both the new platform as well the existing one. Not sure when work will start on the existing platform, but new edge can be install now.

Concrete should be pour and finish the week of Oct 5 for the new tunnel, stairs and elevator at the east end.

2 more bike rack shelters been built in front of the VIA station as the other ones are now full considering 6 months ago they were 3/4 empty.

They have stated to remove some of the tracks in Oakville Yard south of the current main line and will be next year before the existing mainline get move to the south. I hope they allow room for that 4th track that is going to be needed down the road.

Work has finally started west of Clarkson Station where there was a large gap between the work done last year in the Royal Windsor area and Clarkson Station now that the west end of Clarkson Station rail bed is nearing completion. Most of Clarkson new platform shelters and entrance are almost completed. The new road bed is ready except in the area at the west end open to riders at this time. Once the new rebuilt east end platform is open later this year, then the west section will be close and rebuilt.

The road bed between Clarkson and Mississauga Rd is more or less finish except for a few minor areas been finish off. The crossing gates still have to be relocated so the new track can be place.

The new block signal bridge is still not up west of Mississauga Rd and it has been sitting there for months.

No work has started to extend the new tunnel at Mississauga Rd under the existing 2 tracks to connect to the new section under the new track and will not happen until the new track is in service.

Haft of the new road bed east of Port Credit River is in place with work taking place to built the retaining wall up to the crossing underway, but it will not be done along with the back filling for the new rail bed until late this month considering work is plan to start on Oct 13 to Nov 13 to relocate the existing tracks at the crossing. The crossing will be close to traffic during this time frame.

The new road bed east of the crossing is in place with the block signal bridge now been supported by steel post in place of been temporary supported by bracing these past few months. The bridge cannot be removed until the new one is in place and will have some impact on relocation of the existing tracks.

With the relocation of the existing #1(3rd) track at port Credit station to the north, it will remove the curve section to a straight section allowing higher speed as well rebuilding the west end of the station platform.

The west end of the platform is close off and been torn up at this time. The new section is to be built and back in service by year end and that will depend on the relocation of the tracks.

Appleby Station still under major construction.

A by-law to temporarily close a portion of Mississauga Road from Erin Centre
Boulevard to Reid Drive from Monday October 19, 2009 to Friday October 23,
2009 for the purpose of railway repair.

A billboard notice on Old Weston Road at Davenport went up a few days ago advising of closure of Old Weston Road from St Clair West to Junction Road commencing October 23 thru February 2009.
Two questions about this. Does anyone know if this is for a second round of pile driving? Does anyone know if this is a total closure including pedestrians or just automobile traffic...?

Old Weston Road from St. Clair West to Junction Rd is a considerable stretch of roadway which is an important connection from St. Clair to Davenport. It's puzzling how it could be closed for that long, unless some there's a mistake here in communication.
