GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

This is the RFQ that was referenced by the Minister of Transportation and head of Metrolinx during their press conference aka why they had the press conference.

There was also supposed to be a RFQ for new stations, new SmartTrack stations, and existing station renovations, that was supposed to be released on Monday, but hasn't shown up.
Two of those 3 have been posted yesterday. See my post on the last page. The only one outstanding is the upgrades of 22 existing stations.

Hmm. Those signals have exactly one lens, so they can offer exactly one indication: stop.

They are likely just to better indicate where the tracks end. I believe Oshawa has similar signals at the east end of its stub end tracks.

Actually, they're to improve the speed into those tracks. They can now get a medium-to-stop, rather than a restricting.

The new tunnel south of the current one at Kennedy Station is in place and being backfill when I was there today. It could be completed by tonight to allow reinstalling the removed track in the next 12 hours.

Sound barrier wall being installed north of Eglinton on the east side.

Question: What's with station construction speed? Guildwood is taking as long as if it's one shift a week working there and Exhibition is......um, in stasis.

Guildwood is moving at a regular pace.

Exhibition had construction halted with the onset of the RER program as Metrolinx realized that the station needed more than the current renovations were providing to accommodate 15 minute service. They are currently evaluating new design options.

Stouffville Corridor Update.

I don't see much improvement with the location of the new Union Station Bus Terminal at CIBC Centre at Lakeshore Blvd. Yes, there is a huge improvement for westbound buses since the Gardiner ramp is just past the Bay St intersection, but in terms of eastbound buses, there's not much. Instead of Esplanade > Yonge > Queens Quay > Bay > Gardiner ramp, now it will be Lakeshore > Bay > Harbour > Lakeshore > Gardiner ramp past Jarvis.

^ But would there not be some improvement in terms of travel time to get into the new location? Less congestion to fight on Bay and Yonge, and fewer pedestrians crossing?

For Exhibition, I'd like to see 1) another pedestrian crossing to elevate INSANE crowding during TFC games and 2) a covered station as previously proposed for other RER stations

^ Lake Shore is also bad at the peak but I've noticed that Yonge is also bad on Yonge right from The Esplanade to Lake Shore. Some maybe this'll save a few minutes. Is there any GO Transit document that actually calculated if there would be any time savings?

Great pictures thanks! You can never have too many tracks :)

Isn't work supposed to be underway also on the 4th track from Highway 427 to Nickle also?

why are they using wood ties??? they had the opportunity to modernise the trackwork yet theyre still using old tech.....
