Well, now we should see if those cameras really work.
Dec. 30 - StreetBeat - Apparent Shooting On Yonge St.
Saturday December 30, 2006
Police are trying to piece together the events that led to an apparent shooting near a busy downtown intersection early Saturday.
A 15-year-old boy turned up at a downtown hospital with a bullet wound to the leg after a plate glass window was shattered at the Sam the Record Man store on Yonge, just north of Dundas.
Authorities can't confirm the two incidents are related.
The boy's injuries are said to be non life-threatening.
If a crime should ever take place in an area covered by a security camera, would the city be open to a lawsuit if that camera was out of service at that time?
on what basis? the criminal wouldn't have known the camera was defective, thus the crime would have happened whether or not the city was not diligent in ensuring camera uptime.
Again, I see no issue with cameras on Yonge Street. If they can help ID criminals, lost children, stolen property and cars then I'm for it. Watching the general public won't be much of an intrusion...you wouldn't want to watch me all day...very boring.
