Finch West Line 6 LRT

"Utility relocation" means the sewers, water and gas pipes, and electrical to be moved and relocated.

There is some big, big work involved in that one. Toronto has some large-diameter transmission watermains on Finch West that pretty much follow the FWLRT route (west to Hwy 27 and then south).

1. The LRT right-of-way is mostly on the surface. The exceptions are near Keele Street (Finch West Station) and at Highway 27 (Humber College).

2. They might not want the watermains directly under the right-of-way. Just in case of watermain breaks. On the sides where the motor vehicles run, they can be inconvenienced if that happens.

Now the real problem is if there is another flood that takes out the whole road.

Section 5.1 of the 2016/2017 business plan (http://www.metrolinx.com/en/docs/pd...60909_BoardMtg_2016-2017_Business_Plan_EN.pdf):

The Finch West LRT project is in the in-market period of the procurement phase and the in-market activities are progressing as scheduled. The RFP to design, build, finance and maintain the Finch West LRT project was released on February 19, 2016 and is expected to close in February 2017. Design and construction is expected to begin in fall 2017.

We already knew this but confirmation is always nice.

I wonder what will be more appealing to Humber College students in the long-term, this LRT line to Finch West Station or the 191 Rocket express bus to Kipling (or inevitably East Mall) Station?

I take the same buses as the students do, both the Wilson routes and the 191. While the 96 and 186 do carry a lot of students, the majority take the 191 to and from Kipling. The bus is usually packed throughout the day, often stops are skipped as there is no room left. It's difficult to say if some of these trips will go to the LRT instead, it's likely not worth it for many of them if they're getting off before St George.

Got a notice at work that Metrolinx will be moving Enbridge lines along Finch near HWY 27 in preparation for LRT construction. Work beginning by early Nov and finishing in 6-8 weeks.

^ Good news.

Hopefully, it will advance far enough prior to the next provincial elections to be immune to any attempts to cancel or tweak the design.
