Extended drinking hours

Everyone: Is last call in T.O. still 1am? That's one memory I have from my 80s era TO trips! Just curious...LI MIKE

Last call is @ 2am.

I like the idea of zones with later last calls. This allows for a controlled area via which police can more easily monitor the ill effects of late drinking.

Of course, since Toronto is perhaps one of the few (or only) places in the world with such a concentrated club district, we're in a great position to target this to.

It is now 2AM-When was this finally made law? Would there be any support for drinking establishments to be open later? LI MIKE

Toronto already has this ability with the new Toronto Act so I hope they extend the hours soon.

Drinking hours were extended an hour in the mid-90s. As stated, Toronto does have the power now to extend this further, but there's been little talk of it yet. I suspect that'll change as patio/festival season gets going. And yes, there's quite a bit of support for longer drinking hours, but it's not exclusive.

if the city is going to tax booze they might as well extend hours to 4 am.definately more revenue.

I remember being but a young frisky lad in the 80's and only being able to drink until 11pm on Sundays - that's last call at 10:45pm! It's funny that the subways still don't run a minute later at night than in the early 80's. Some things change, others don't.
I've got no problem extending drinking hours. Perhaps licenses could be examined on a case by case basis based on an application to extend. Some places lend themselves to later operating hours than others.
It's time to approve spirits for sale in stores too. Perhaps test the idea for one year and see if society crumbles then make a decision to stop it or continue.
And I don't even drink....
