I've heard this idea bandied around before, but was unaware if it was getting serious, and also near the scale of what's being talked about. I had been hearing of something more akin to an expansion of the existing facilities at the Ex.

This idea though would 100% be new build.

It would also, is pursued, replace the MTCC entirely.

I'm a bit dubious. Even with the O/L, that's not really walking distance to downtown, UPX doesn't stop there, there's no where near enough hotel capacity in the immediate vicinity. But...... lets see.

I wonder if they would replace the National Trade Centre with a new convention centre?
 
lots of questions. 1 are we tearing down enercare?
why wouldnt we keep the mtcc for smaller events.
With this and the hotel phase 2. were coming to a point we realllly need to think aboutt the future of the ex. like should we either have it we dont. if we dont, we should start planning for housing and other development there

Honestly, the point about the escalators is a good one. The building is a mess to navigate and a new building would solve that.

The only issue I forsee getting rid of MTCC is the parking garage. Removing it would likely mean digging up and re-engineering Roundhouse Park again.
 
Finally! 😂 Hopefully we get a good firm who can deliver a multi-storied facility on top of the infamous garage.
 
At this point, Doug Ford really is in his own fantasy land.

  • Crumbling Health Care and hospitals bursting at the seams- "No problem folks, we're going to make Niagara Falls the Las Vegas North of Canada, it's going to be even better than Las Vegas!"

  • Skyrocketing unaffordable housing and lack of housing starts- "Folks dont worry, the spa is coming. We need a grand spa because it will make Ontario a world-class destination!"

  • Education system struggling deeply - "Folks, we're going to build the biggest convention centre in North America!"

  • Municipalities cant afford to provide services to it's residences "Folks, we're going to build the largest tunnel in the world, it's going to be something that's never been seen before"

This clown is wasting all of our time, energy, and money. Not one of these things is going to be built in anybody's lifetime, and this myopic fool is parroting delusional non-sense instead of actually fixing the serious deficiencies we have in this province.

I'm tired of hearing this of this guy's daily fantasy delusions.
