About mid-block on Hayter (tucked in behind the College St. store) was the downtown delivery depot plus some workshops and warehousing on upper floors. The truck backed into loading bays that still had the remnants from horse-drawn days; troughs and drains.

In the 1960's and 1970's, I avoided the strip joints, bars, and many restaurants only because I couldn't stand the cigarette smoke.

Here's a cool aerial view of old town dated to 1894- I assume taken from a balloon. Toronto's first house built in brick (1807) can be seen on the corner of King and Frederick- lower right. It was built for Laurent Quet, a Frenchman of minor nobility who fought in the French Revolution. He apparently returned to France in 1815 after Napoleon was defeated and the monarchy restored. The house was designed by William Warren Baldwin in the Georgian style and was demolished in 1904.
