My mother's cousin, " Daisy "Pauline Redsell-Fediow a sculptress, lived in the village above one of the stores, all pre-Yorkville.

50 years ago today - July 22, 1965: Brother Leo in front of the Christian Brothers' College. He heads 300 Brothers across Canada; Order was set up to teach boys only; but spread of co-educational schools has forced it to compromise.

Here is one I'm sure many of you have seen, but I hadn't come across until today.

The instantly recognizable profile of a Northrop CF-5 Freedom Fighter flying over the islands, with the CN Tower under construction in the background.

Interesting that it's flying 'wheels-down."
Is it possible that it would land at the Island Airport?

More vintage plane over Toronto shots!

This one is interesting just because it shows what I am pretty sure are 3 US-designed WW2-era aircraft with RAF and RCAF markings. I am 100% certain that the closest plane is an F4 Corsair, a famous gull-winged carrier aircraft known for its activity in the Pacific Theatre. Second in line appears to be a P-51, with a Grumman TBF Avenger (another carrier-based plane) in the back:

Next we have a Dash-7, and a floatplane/flying boat I am unfamiliar with

If I'm not mistaken, that last photo shows the Maple Leaf Mills silos in the early stages of demolition.

I am just going to keep posting these:

Snowbirds with SkyDome under construction: Look at all those parking lots!

Commerce Court West rising into the skyline: What's that navy ship at the bottom right?

And to tie in to the aviation theme, lets check out YYZ's Terminal 3 taking shape:

The ship is the HMCS Haida. It was first docked at the foot of York Street after it was acquired by a private preservation group from the Navy in the 1960s. When the preservation group ran into financial difficulties, the province acquired the ship and moved it to Ontario Place. It was recently restored and moved to Hamilton.
