the only building i know of that was restored in this way is the old furrier building on the SE corner of Queen and Spadina. i seem to remember that a version of the turret was still there, but in awful shape, and they completely replaced it about 15 years ago when it became Lettieri....

Then again, the fact that there was some version of it extant "going in" might have been sufficient alibi to restore it--that is, had it vanished altogether by that point, to resurrect it might have faced the same hurdle as at Gladstone and CB2.

Oh, and while not quite resurrecting its original splendour, a few of Confederation Life's turrets were "re-peaked" in the mid-90s--and I think one can still tell where by the change in copper tone...

Yonge Street 1942? any thoughts of location? One of the signs offers free parking for the Imperial Theatre. That was a former name for the Cannon / Ed Mirvish Theatre and if it's this theatre this is presumably near Dundas. (To my eye it does not look like Yonge but maybe a neighbouring street?) No doubt one of our UTers with a Street Directory collection will be more exact. I must say the young man has a "jaunty" walk and it's rather sad to think he is now either very old or dead. Where are these photos from?

At first I thought it might be Dundas and the warehouse in the distance is the Sears Warehouse, but that building with the turret stumps me. Are you sure this is Toronto, Davidackerman?
