Hallelujah. I don't get why the city is so inconsistent with the barriers.

I thought we were going to end up with something useless like this:

This one is the standard MTO barrier. The other is the City Toronto barrier (although normally aluminum colour). The MTO barrier is closer to the real crash tested barrier that is supposed to be used (i.e. required by Code). There is a weasel clause in the Code that allows minor variations, which different owners interpret in different ways.

FYI: All that work that was being down along the street on the east side of the bridge is now clear. Much easier to get to, and across, the bridge now.

Yes, the City watermain has been replaced. Can someone remind me, has it been decided to regularise (make more of a 90 degree turn) the DVP access ramp here as part of the landform construction??

I'm astounded anyone could be hearing about this for the first time. I feel as though every generation notices a shift at some point, where the frame of what was accepted as “general knowledge” moves a decade or so. Kinda like: “Whaddya mean you never heard of the triangle shirtwaist...

Probably because the bridges are reaching the end of their design lifetimes and need to be replaced. However, I do look forward to the possibility of finally seeing the Richmond-Adelaide cycle tracks extended across the Don, though part of that would involve a future phase.

If you look back at older photos in this thread you can see that when they removed the asphalt they needed to also remove LOTS of deteriorated concrete and there were lots of paces there were large holes needed to get totally new concrete - the 'bents' also needed attention.. The bridges are old and needed major repair (and higher walls to prevent vehicles 'jumping them".

Do they plan on adding an extra lane in each direction on the DVP between north of Queen St. E and east of Cherry St.? I noticed in this area it's a bit of chock point with the highway going from 3 down to 2 and then back to 3 lanes in each direction. There is also a bit of a choke point on the Gardiner around the vicinity of Reese St. and York St., where the eastbound lanes go from 2 down to 3, then back up to 3. Does anyone know if any of this is planned to be fixed at some point?

It is definitely a choke point southbound at the moment but that is because there is no traffic exiting to Richmond/Eastern during this construction. With that restored, it is measurably the least travelled segment of the highway and 2 lanes is appropriate.

This one is less to do with the lane pinch, more a result of the short on-ramp to off-ramp distance of about 250m, both of which are very popular. An extra lane wouldn’t resolve these conflicts, and I’m not sure any cheap and easy solution would.

Good news!! We would like to provide you with an update on the Eastern/Adelaide Bridges Rehabilitation Project, including Stage 4 work and reopening on the DVP Richmond Off-Ramp. Pending favourable weather conditions, we anticipate reopening the DVP Richmond off-ramp and full lanes reopened on Eastern Avenue by the end of April or early May. The reopening date will be confirmed one week in advance. To safely transition to a full lane reopening for the FIFA World Cup, a series of overnight closures will be required on Eastern Avenue, Adelaide Street, and the DVP Richmond off-ramp. These closures are necessary to complete expansion joint seal installation, line painting, barrier adjustments, and prepare lanes for safe operation. We will provide the full schedule and confirmed dates for these overnight operations once finalized. The contractor will return after the FIFA period to reinstate the medians on Eastern Avenue and other finishing work. We will provide more details as we get closer to this stage.
