It's official. The City of Toronto has confirmed Bill 212 has caused the design work for Parkside Drive to be stalled.

Eglinton has been repaved between Dunfield Street and Mount Pleasant.

It's infuriating how this has been done without the bike lanes. While the Finch West LRT will start revenue service demonstration this Saturday, there is still no word on when this will begin for Eglinton; meaning further delays for that project.

While the provincial legislation is a real, potential, issue. It is NOT an excuse, yet.

The work is proceeding. It could and should have moved faster, but I digress.

It should be available to advance to an I&E Ctte Report this fall, exact date TBD.

Will the work start before the snow? Probably not (near certainty)

The new multi use path across the Don Valley on the Eastern Ave. bridge is now partially in use. The temporary sidewalk/bike lane was flipped from the traffic side, to the proper south side of the bridge. Work continues on rebar and pouring a concrete divider. The path is 4m wide according to the projects website, about half is available now for cycling and pedestrians. This is such a great piece of infrastructure to get across the parkway and river. The construction team has been great at accommodating people using the temporary lane. It would appear they are going to finish up the south side of the project this fall and switch the car lanes over to do the last segement, the northern edge.

After that is complete the work will being on the new DVP on ramp from eastbound Eastern Ave. to northbound DVP. The integration of the multi-use path there and getting across oncoming traffic will be important as is it very poor right now. I believe the plan is to remove the circular ramp for a light and straight entrance, which then bends over the new flood protection being implemented.

Nice! With the short Richmond-Adelaide extension to Power Street expected this year, I hope they can fill the gap between Power and this bridge sooner rather than later to allow east enders to use Eastern to get to Richmond-Adelaide!

Can someone explain the rationale for this one-block cycle track slated for Power St.? Is it for bypassing Parliament to go to/from Shuter?

"The remaining works necessary to complete the eglintonTOday Complete Street project will follow when the Eglinton Crosstown LRT opens, as authorized by Toronto City Council. The timeline for installation in areas most impacted by Eglinton Avenue West/Allen Road traffic congestion is still to be determined."

"The City thoroughly explored the possibility of an early opening of the Cedarvale Eglinton Crosstown LRT station to provide an alternate access for pedestrians to reach Eglinton West subway station without having to cross the Allen Road on ramp. For technical reasons an early opening was not achievable, but according to the latest updates, the opening of the ECLRT continues to be anticipated for later this fall. The opening will result in a substantial decrease in pedestrian street-level crossing demand at the on-ramp."

Heads up for Belt Line riders.

On today's ride we discovered a surprise closure: The Belt Line Trail is blocked south of Moore, north of the Chorley Park connection.

We detoured through the Brick Works and spoke with some City staff on site. They told us the original plan was to allow access up the Belt Line from the south, but that turned out to be not possible. They advised the Chorley Park access will stay closed until construction wraps up this winter.

I suggested they post a notice at the Moore Park entrance - they said they were already discussing it.

Our usual route takes us down the Belt Line from Moore, up to Chorley, through the neighbourhood to the Bloor cycle track and back to Logan / Danforth. Today's detour had us heading down Bayview to the Distillery, then back up River-Shuter-Dundas-Logan - a bit more exercise than planned.

The good news is consultation details will be announced in October, but the bad news is the project will now focus only on Kingston Road from Cliffside to Scarborough Golf Club because of Bill 212.
