Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I rode the newly opened section from Jones to Broadview then back to Jones around 7:00-7:30 last night. Was super awesome. Most of the street parking was being used. I'm not sure where any of the expanded patios will go that were talked about as part of Destination Danforth. I'm not sure if I would want to eat/drink between a traffic lane and bicycle lane. I didn't notice any traffic backups, but that could be more to do with it being a Tuesday evening.

Phase 2 of East Don Trail to be open August 2020.

Phase 1 is expected to be complete by the end of 2021

Photos from the above link, of the new trail.

Are they putting in planter boxes as well? Although I appreciate the new curbs on Richmond, I wish they had kept the planter boxes instead of just putting them on the sidewalk.

I can see little black boxes between the waves; I'm guessing these are planters, but not sure.

My understanding is yes. The BIA contracts a landscaping company to water and maintain the flower beds along Bloor as well as the flower pots on their blue decorative poles (the ones with the orange lights), as well as the stretch of planters along Yonge from Scollard to Yorkville. I suspect the same company will look after these planters. This was probably a compromise the BIA reached with the city given their opposition to the lanes in the first place.

Here is what you can expect as we work to finalize the installation on Bloor:

  • Planter boxes installed yesterday from Avenue to Bay
  • Separators placed between boxes between Avenue and Bay will be installed today, 23rd July
  • Remaining planter boxes and separators are tentatively scheduled for installation next week
  • Plantings in the planter boxes will follow hopefully next week as well

You wish.

I still get cars honking/yelling at me when I go down shaw: "ONE WAY STREET ASSHOLE, YOU'RE BIKING THE WRONG WAY!"

Had that very experience checking them out last night; Toronto drivers gonna Toronto driver...

Anywho, it’s nonetheless exciting — nice to have a direct route to and from Kensington. All the signs appear to be up, and you can see the lane markings for the not-yet-painted bits. Not sure why they put parts of it in the dooring zone, though.
