Pylons all up and down River Street between Bayview Extension and Gerrard. Does anyone know what's about to be done? I drive this street every day. Tried to find info on it on City of Toronto website but can't get any info. Thought I'd ask here.

It is going to be part of a major reconstruction project that will be affecting all of River St. from north of King St. including the ramp to Bayview. There is also reconstruction of the Bayview extension, and addition of a separated bike path along there. More details can be found on the TO Inview map. Just select the Transportation Services filter on the left side. http://map.toronto.ca/maps/map.jsp?app=TO_INview1

I drive this daily as well. I suggest finding an alternate route once this all starts.

It's to be the complete capital works for the road, including water and some slight redesigns. I believe bike lanes will be added, and the intersections will be improved (particularly the ped crossing at Dundas). Hopefully we'll see streetscape improvements like the addition of trees.

In its past and current state River is a forgettable street that few ever think about, and it's pretty shady. But with development creeping up both sides from north to south I think its future is a good one.

River has bike lanes already, they are just really crappy and nobody uses them as the road surface is so poor that it is essentially unusable for bikes.

Thanks for that. Wow what a great resource that map is. Incredibly detailed and lots of info.

Glad to hear they're going to be repaving all of River and all of Bayview Extension. These are personally my two most heavily travelled routes as I live right at Gerrard and River.

Shuter. Dundas East. Gerrard East. They're all absolutely brutal. Beyond bad. Like what Front or Lower Sherbourne used to be like before they get repaved.

I like that that map also shows the streets that have been repaved and have a moratorium on being ripped up for cables and pipes.

Well, look at all the construction in that area. No point rebuilding them until after that's nearly finished.

Yes, it's a constant source of amusement for me too - since it seems to have NO effect whatsoever! All the utility companies have to say is 'it's an emergency repair'. If the City were serious they would have a FAR higher fee to make cuts in streets that have a moratorium. I have suggested this , with no response!
