Church-Wellesley Village

I would be totally down for that, although I'm not sure how the other coffee shops on the street would feel. I know a lot struggle with rent as it is. I wouldn't mind seeing some frozen yogurt in the village though ;)

I think Yogurty's is slated to go in to the old Yogen Fruz space. And I think there's alot of coffee places on the street already so something else would be nice.

A proper lounge/café (not a pub or a bar) that is a bit edgier and trendier and not as Fly-nightclub-feeder as Byz would be nice. Yogourt is covered with the Yogurty's at Y&W and there are enough chain coffee houses. Good luck to whatever goes there, though (unless it's a luggage store, a cash advance store or a porn shop – they can fail.)

Yogurty's was there for 20 years and it only did marginal business in the summer, Baskin & Robbins does much more business. Is there any indication that Yogen Fruz will do any better?
I'm not so big on all these corporate coffee places taking over but at least Timmy's is Canadian and would probably do very well. [Reminder: I need a pound of Italian Roast from Starbucks!]

The Toronto Centre boundary should continue along Bloor St. to Avenue Road. Apartment and condo dwellers from Bloor down to Wellesley Street have much different needs and require considerably different attention to issues than those north of Bloor in Rosedale and beyond (the Mt. Pleasant Riding), which is to a large extent, upscale homes. I fear that little sliver south of Bloor will get lost to the money power north of Bloor and so it should remain in the Toronto Centre riding.

Yogen Fruz/Country Style was the old tenant. Yogurty's is the new one =)

I'm exited about Yoghurty's.

Big Johnson's - it looked like a dud. Happy to see it go - hopefully something more pub-y will occupy it's current space.

I'm completely shocked that an upscale resto hasn't opened in the village in ages. Frankly I'm still missing Il fornello.

would one consider Il fornello an upscale resto ?

i dont live in the area, however, whenever i'm dt and walk past that space, the current resto there is always empty.
how do they survive is beyond me !?!

how big is the space occupied by Big Johnson's?
you'd think with initials of BJ, it'd be a hit ... "could go for a BJ tonight !"

Big Johnson's lease has been terminated according to a sign on the door. Could see that coming because I went in 2 weeks ago with my family and when we went to pay they said they didn't accept credit cards. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Tim Horton's go in here, that would certainly enliven the village a bit more.

Really we don;t need another coffee shop on the street.... Big Johnson's would have been a very successful place if the stupid owner treated his staff and suppliers with respect. Employees having to keep track of their hours and then argue with him for payment was not much fun.... Landlord closed the doors for failure to pay rent....btw it was the same group of owners who ran the Village Rainbow Cafe.... It is a good location and would be very successful if someone with brains ran it..... Time will tell and we shall see as employees now have to either sue or go to the Minister of Labour to get monies owed.....

Big Johnson's did look like a dud. It looked as bare bones and cheap as could be. I would hate to see yet another pub in the village. We have so many as is. A great club would be awesome. A place to DANCE to music that is not crappy Fly music, but still modern and nice like Fly.

I thought a small Smokes Poutiniere was going to go in the Country Style space. Oh well. Where are they gonna put the Smokes in the village? They signed a franchise agreement for the village

A poutinerie would be fantastic! I never thought of that. (And I love how poutinerie has become a word now. And it's totally Canadian! Lol.)

I don't think Church St is zoned for a club? Is it? I know places like Byz and Crews get away with it but I think they have some loophole stuff going on (like it is not designated as a club; but, if people start dancing, well "hey, we can't help it!" Lol.)

I've heard this before. I've never seen a document saying this though.
