Yes, that's in the Canadian Tire article on Wikipedia. Still not legal tender. Nor does it mean that the law of customer returns applies any differently here. But it's fascinating/incredible the uses that are made of Canadian Tire money. Greatest promotion/customer loyalty program ever in this country, I suspect.

No, but still why it is treated as legal tender within the store when it comes to returns.
 
Personally, Canadian Tire money is simply too insignificant to worry about. At 0.5% or whatever value it is currently worth, it's more hassle than its worth to keep in my drawer. Adding in the fact that I generally only use credit card, CT money really never comes into the picture for my transactions. I have no issues giving it back if they ask me to. In fact, I would gladly donate any CT money I find hidden in my desk to anyone who wants it...except that it'd cost me more in fuel to drive out to meet anyone who wanted it. :p

Unless it's a large amount, it's not worth going through the trouble though. (Unless you live close to one)

The new reward card was launched a few weeks ago. You can download the app now and use that instead of carrying/collecting CT money. You also earn it at Sport Chek, Atmosphere and Marks, and you can still collect if paying with a credit card now.

Select items will feature 10x and 20x the rewards which will add up pretty quickly. You also automatically get 10x the money if you pay with your CT Mastercard, in addition to any bonus rewards.

Also makes returns much easier, as you no longer need a receipt to return something.

Has anyone heard any news regarding their Express store program? Initially they had announced that at least half a dozen or so would open.

Put on hold for a bit. Currently focusing on a flagship in Edmonton, as well as a new concept in Mississauga (Mavis/Dundas).

Things are going to start up again with the Express concept, however only 1 more store is currently in the pipeline. A Liberty Village Express store should have been opening up around now, but that was canceled.

Yes I've been there....very pleased with the layout and product assortment. It certainly follows the European model of urban retail stores that provide a unique collection of merchandise. People that live along the Danforth definitely walk to many stores in their neighbourhood, and why not a Canadian Tire as well. I'd like to see more retailers explore urban concepts like CTC Express.
