Brampton Transit/Zum

According to the latest Brampton Committee of Council agenda, Brampton Transit ridership was up 13% from 2019 from January 1 to mid March in 2020, then, not unexpectedly, nosedived. As of August, ridership was back to 50% of 2019 figures, while they expect it to reach 60% by the end of 2020 with more commuting and schools partly reopening.

The 505 Zum extension to Pearson Airport is still planned, but is postponed to Fall 2021.

The general service hour increase was also deferred to 2021, making this the first year in more than a decade with no additional service hours.

On Wednesday, two residents delegated to the Committee of Council of Brampton regarding Brampton Transit, and in response, Brampton City Council referred the delegations to staff to report back as part of the 2021 budget process with information on the 504 Chinguacousy Zum, and night service. In the course of responding to a councillor, Brampton Transit admitted the Chinguacousy Zum was planned in the 2018-2022 Five Year Business Plan for 2022, but has been pushed to 2024, citing the need to repurpose some buses from the 502 Main Zum. Furthermore staff noted that they have been thinking about night service for years; I believe this report will be the first time Brampton Transit publicly discusses potential for night service.

Ahh so that’s why there was a overhead line being constructed at Queen/Hwy 50 that was blocking half the bus lane. Can’t wait for this now.

I think there’s a planned service change on March 1st. I don’t think it’s anything big, as the ‘biggest’ change is the 511 now stopping at Finch/Humber College Blvd for a more easier access to the TTC 36 Finch West.
