I recently created a little rig for my camera allowing me to attatch a pair of binoculars on front of the lense. I surprised myself as to how well the setup worked. Although I wouldn't truly compare this to a telephoto lense, the magnification is quite intense. The binoculars are 8x magnification, while my camera's optical zoom is 3x, combining for a total of 24x. As you can see, it's not easy bringing everything into focus - that will take some further experimenting. But it is sure fun to use.
