Attack in Canada 'now probable': CSIS report

But if they foil these plans, that implies that the threat, is, in fact, quite probable. You can't foil something that isn't probable or non-existant. I don't think it's fear-inducing to state what is in fact the case. If anything, it would be irresponsible not to.

The real problem is that the war in Iraq is providing the fodder to activate anger.

Canadians in general, not only Intelligence agencies, must befriend the muslim comminity to diffuse the anger before it is used in a destructive manner.

Bush is such a moron, he thinks that terrorism was invented on September 11. It has always existed, he has fanned the flame in an irresponsible manner and he is too stupid to get it !

That's just my opinion.

This is not an isolated incident and Im sure similar investigations do not reach the public the way this story did.

It just feels like the most was made out of this operation. The PM had a clear prepared speech, given the leak of a press conference scheduled before the arrests.

I have mixed feelings about the way it was handled. It does appear like slight fear-mongering and a great photo-op and agenda boost for the PM.

It also gives a very clear message that we do not accept terrorism associated acitivity in Canadian. Secondly, Canada has the capability to root it out.

There is no such thing as an isolated incident, and I am absolutely certain that if Bill Clinton was President, this would not be happening in Canada.

^ Who says Clinton wouldn't have invaded Afghanistan and Iraq? He most definitely would have bombed the hell out of them (and we might be even more involved militarily if this had happened, you know, more of a NATO thing than a "with us or against us" thing). Canada, being so tied to the U.S. in the eyes of the world, could easily have been targeted anyway...it's really only a matter of time, not a matter of who's in the White House.

If Clinton was President, I don't think there would hae been a 911.

The Bush Administration disregarded all the warnings and Clinton would not have been vacationing in Florida and reading to children, on September 11.

He was on the ball even when Monica was fondling his.

I doubt that the attack has anything to do with who's in the presidency - do recall that quite a few of the attacks by al-Qaeda happened during Clinton's term, with the latter ordering retalitory missle strikes in Sudan and Afghanstan, and that Clinton himself "starred" in an al-Qaeda training/recruitment video.

AoD

Yes, I absolutely recall that, and that is exactly my point. Clinton was a target, he knew it, and he had this dude named Clarke doing his best to keep the government vigilante.

I genuinely believe that 911 would have been thwarted if the Bush administration cooperated with the aparatus that Clinton had developed.

I can't prove it, but I am absolutely convinced that the Bush adminmistration's gross incompetence is DIRECTLY responsible for 911.

Like I said, that's my gut instinct, I cannot prove it.

Moreover, if there is a direct hit on canada, I think it would have been absolutely unthinkable outside of the climate that the Bush Administration has created.

Moreover, I think it is hilarious to listen to the Americans criticize us because we are allegedly too liberal and are therefore making it easy for terrorists.

You would think that the nation that trained the 911 terrorists in Florida, would be smart enought to refrain from criticizing a friendly neighbor, without good reason.

Stockboy Day has alluded to similar ideas.

Criminals will be criminals. Some will litter, some will hold up a convenience store, some will go on a shooting rampage, and some will mix fertilizer with fuel oil to make a big explosion. Crime is the reason there are police and a justice system and the reason programs that help youths avoid crime are important. People shouldn't blow this out of proportion but shouldn't be oblivious to the possibility of it happening in their backyard either. People will say its a war on terror or a war between ideologies but it is really a war on crime, especially organized crime.

I have yet to hear an Osama tape or an Al-Qeida member say that they are against "freedom" or "democracy"... they say they are against "the West" but what aspect of the west do they really mean... taken literally it could mean the direction on the compass but obviously it means more than that. When Prime Minister Harper says these people are against Canadian values I just roll my eyes. Which values? Canadian healthcare or Canadian troops in Afghanistan? Wealth in Canada or slow response to starvation or need for economic development somewhere else? I seriously doubt the home-grown terrorists were against healthcare. I hope the Canadian media and courts do us all justice by finding out what motivates these people rather than simply polishing over reality with a statement like "they are against western values". Heck, some would consider people against gay marriage against western values if western values equates to "freedom to do all but harm" but obviously "western values" are up for debate as well.

I find it mildly humourous that the government that campaigned on getting rid of the gun registry is thinking of implementing a fertilizer registry. Strange times.

EnviroTO we gotta stop with the politically correct stuff here. This is not just simple crime. This is terrorism, and it must be stopped. We did not have this problem before 911. This is a problem that must be put under control, and the governments of the free world will have to stand up and actually start doing something about it.
For starters the governments of the free world should start

-Sactions on all countries that harbour terrorism and have anti west leaders, like Iran and Saudi Arabia.

-Ban all travel between Canada and any country that has sactions on it like Iran. And that travel ban would stay in effect till these countries modernize their thinking.

-Ban on immigration from countries that have sactions and travel bans. Immigration ban would stay in effect till these countries prove they have changed their thinking.

-Ban on foreign ownership of Canadian companies and places. Such as Fairmont. The king of Saudi Arabia or whatever should not have been allowed to pruchase a Canadian company, knowing his country believes in hurting the west.

-Mandatory diversity training for all new immigrants to Canada.

-Monitoring of all religious schools in Canada by secret inspectors, to make sure hatred is not being taught behind closed doors.

-Ten year min deportation law, where new immigrants to Canada can be deported within that time span for doing criminal activity, or terrorism plotting, etc.

Honestly, Mike, your terrorism posts are laughable. It's like reading the ideas of a grade 4 student. "Immigration ban would stay in effect till these countries prove they have changed their thinking." Nice.

There is only one way to stop terrorism, and that is, to make all terrorists clearly understand that they are in fact COWARDS.

The problem is, some of them fancy themselves to be 'freedom fighters' and the Bush administration is giving them plenty of reason to propagandize, to that effect.

ALL TERRORISTS ARE COWARDS. PERIOD !

I wouldn't call someone who hijacks a plane and crashes it into something, dying in the process, a coward. That takes more guts than most people have.
