Apple Store

...and that store is always so crowded. Even though it's 2 floors, they're tiny — smaller than the one at Eaton Centre. In retrospect, it's amazing how small they built their stores when you look at the flagships of today. Apple Rue Ste. Catherine was the first one in Canada and was built during an era when Apple only sold Macs and iPods. If I remember correctly, a good chunk of the floor space was actually dedicated to software boxes and third party printers. I can see a flagship Apple Store in Montreal on the river. There are plenty of opportunities down there, specially in the Old Port.

Their locational decision is now partly about making urbanistic statements as well.

Seriously beyond jealous...

Chicago Tribune: Apple's new flagship store an understated gem on the Chicago River

One of the Chicago Tribune's photographers did extremely well in shooting that photo, managing to include the building home to said newspaper.

The riser portion confirms that there’ll be a cantilevered balcony facing Bloor. The in wall segment reserved for “Apple Riser” is the width of an emergency stair case — so about 1.5 metres — and will go from floor to ceiling. This is consistent with a cantilever structure. They’ll build an iron cross brace that’ll be bolted to the 2 pillars and then the floor and ceiling beams.

Then there’ll be a back of house room and a wall of accessories. The balcony will host the Today At Apple education room with a giant tv on the wall visible from Bloor. There’ll likely be stone staircases on either side of the balcony.

What’s missing is the board room and an outdoor patio space. If Apple leases the lower level, then they could build the boardroom and back of house operations down there. But it doesn’t appear that they did as Mizrahi has partitioned those off as individual retail spaces in the PATH.

I guess Apple could add some tables and chairs on Bloor and on Yonge since the private part of the sidewalk is so wide but this wouldn’t be the kind of outdoor space Apple has been building for their new stores.

At least we got partial confirmation of a much needed Apple Store.

It would greatly relieve the ever-so tiny Eaton Centre location that often approaches fire hazard.

Would be great if Urban Toronto could get a comment from Mizrahi. Somebody put "Apple" in the blueprints. Not just out of context. The description very clearly fits with a well known Apple store construction feature. It's as good as confirmed as it gets without Apple itself confirming it.

Sorry, not going to happen.

First; Mizrahi will not comment. Assuming there is a contract with Apple, he cannot say anything. Second; neither are you gong to fish a comment out of Apple until they are ready. Third, who cares about official confirmation? This has all been obvious for a couple years now.

The space shown for risers on that drawing are for the mechanical and electrical services to run up the building - nothing to do with a cantilevered structure.

BlogTO finally covering this (https://www.blogto.com/tech/2018/01/yonge-and-bloor-might-soon-get-apple-store/)

Weren't the screen caps were taken from the original April 2016 submission? I didn't think they were 'recently updated' as mentioned in the article. Incorrect reporting?

It's BlogTO...nuff said. Note the circuitous way of referencing the news as well - instead of going to the primary source, which might have saved them from the error.
