You'll be in for a treat when Brett Polegato steps on stage at the COC Gala. Not only does he have a beautiful voice and enunciation ( he was a soloist when the TSO performed Vaughan Williams's 'Dona nobis pacem' last November ) but ...

He's no Nathan Gunn, but I will train my my opera glasses from my seat in ring 5.

If you crane your neck and hang by your heels will you be able to see the top of the Cornwall's heads if they show up?

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

Um, isn't Toronto supposed to be the 'capital' city of Ontario? Gee, maybe we could let some 905ers in, maybe even some Hamiltonians? (shudder the thought and prepare to fumigate).

They can come all they want. Alas, no one is stopping them.

BB: I TRIED to get seats on the side, so I could watch The Princess of Wales (she loves our people, my English spies say) all Marquise de Merteuil - like. Alas, they were gone. One hopes for gawking opportunities during pre performance cocktails.

D'ya think they'll mix with the common folk before the Really Big Show? More likely, they'll be in the fancy lounge - and you have to donate at least a thou to get in there on gala night.

You can always wave wanly at your people below and pretend you're royalty ... or you can turn round and wave at the Great Pretender!

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

Well, I'd expect a walk through at least. Up the grand staircase and around to the party poop room.

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

Or a fly-past across the stage in V formation like Peter Pan.

Him, Her and Jack Diamond.

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

... oh, and thanks for reminding me of the importance of being there on the Big Night. We must show ourselves occasionally. They expect it.

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

Peter Pan always makes me think of Kathy Rigby, which makes me think of maxi-pads. Not a happy association.

Re: A Revitalized Toronto Pins Its Hopes on the Hobbits: NYT

Mrs. Cornwall has always had the same effect on Mr. Cornwall if I recall.

Personally, if I want icons of overwrought 80s womanhood, I'd rather take Karen Finley
