I had a quick chance to check out Rochester. Really, 45 minutes was enough for a quick tour of downtown.
The Williamsville Barrier on the New York State Thruway, on my way to Rochester. The Thruway still uses the old ticket system and people collect the tolls: the toll for each exit is printed on the ticket.
Heading north on W. Henrietta, towards downtown:
Downtown Rochester tour:
The Broad Street Bridge. The arches below the roadway is the only easily visible remain of the Rochester Subway system.
Midtown Plaza was on of the first downtown shopping malls in the US, anchored by two department stores. Both are now gone.
Xerox Tower
Kodak Tower:
High Falls. A small entertainment district is next to the pedestrian bridge, which gives a nice view.
I drove back along Highway 31, which follows the Erie Canal. It's a really pleasant drive.
