    Yonge-Dundas Square/Sankofa Square (Brown + Storey Architects)

Truth is both the rendering and the reality are nothing worth looking at. It looks cool when it is hang low on a small building because of the dramatic effects, but on top of a tall building, it is just boring no matter how you put it.

LOL, in 20 years, downtown Toronto will look like a typical Asian city (Chinese or Korean) with no characters when they keep building stuff like this, where density is the only thing to boast about and beauty is way at the bottom of the priority, which is still, ironically, better than the sad...

It is fair to say its potential Chinese buyers are investors. It is very interesting that the Chinese immigrants predominantly prefer living in suburban homes, rather than city centre condos, although they are all used to condo living. Yes, a lot of them mention UofT, even when it is more than...

Yes, it should be completely left for experts to decide where to build what, and then that's it. Honestly what the hell do the constituents know about building subways? Democracy should not work this way.

While Canada and China may not be directly comparable, we shouldn't think the Spadina extension is anything comparable to Manhattan. It is apples and watermelons.

Yes, in terms of interesting and cheap places, not another Pizza Pizza or Jack Astors where a boring hamburger/pasta costs $15. I am not sure though that the mentioning of Ryerson itself means the condo is marketed towards students. The ad is in Chinese, and for the past several years, almost...

that's because Serbia does NOT get things done more than Canada does, but China does. It is completely different. Serbia didn't build thousands of km of highspeed rail in 10 years, constructed multiple subways in all its major cities and didn't increase its per capita GDP by 11 folds between...

ouch, another "if you dare criticize Canada, move back to where you are from" response. When did I say "China is so great"? I said China managed to improve transportation and quality of life dramatically in the past 20 years, which you seem to be upset with. To you (and those who “liked" your...

well, if you consider the one stop line "new subway opening", and IF the DRL actually materializes. Did you mean DRL will be ready in 13-14 years? How many stops will it have? Is it under construction already? Have we even decided it will be built at all? Because we know it takes Toronto 9 years...

Usually they are. Migrant workers need a temporary resident permit. The censuses include those people. For example, my hometown has 8.2M people with Hukou, but 7.2M actual residents. It is all official statistics. Also those crappy apartments in the slums are very likely to be sold for...

Why are you LOL? Is there anything funny? I said vastly improved compared with 20 years ago. It is almost night and day. It is the difference between "saving half a month's salary to buy a bike" to "buying cars with ease". In terms of transportation, it is a difference between spending 90...

Shanghai had 2 subways like Toronto does in 1997. Today, 20 years later it has 14 lines, surpassing London and NYC in terms of total system length, with 5 under construction. In 1997, it took 9 hours to travel from Shanghai to my hometown, which is 300 km away (involving crossing the Yangtze...

For the record, CONSTRUCTION started in July 2008. I suppose most of EA and consultations precede that? 9 years for 6 stations, and some of us actually think it is normal, even trying to justify that (oh, it is because we do things properly).

It is pretty impressive that Toronto managed to finish 6 subway stations/8 kilometers in a matter of 9 years. What an achievement. Now we can focus on spending the next 10 years in building that one stop subway in Scarborough. With that speed, we will catch up with Madrid soon. I am very excited.

I thought the standard is double garage? I saw plenty of those in Mississauga or Vaughan. Double the garage, double the quality of life/success.

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

Condo prices seem out of control in Toronto. My friend is selling CASA III, a 346 sq ft unit for 380k. Six years ago, I visited a 499 sq ft unit selling for $299,900 at CASA I.

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

No, they are simply cheaper in general. Today even the newest condos in Toronto don't have a condo fee that low. They are usually 0.65$ a sf or higher.

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

speaking of condo fees, I noticed that they are significantly lower in Vancouver than in Toronto, almost by half. For example there are plenty of condos (not those 300sf micro ones) which charges 200-350$ a months, which would be very rare in Toronto. I understanding lower heating cost might be...
